-Writing after a year since I watched-
I'm mostly writing to offset the negative reviews. I don't care what others on this site say. To Love Ru is a great ecchi, it's a great anime if you like ecchi. I remember it fondly. Though I cannot tell you what the actual story was very accurately, I can tell you that it was about Rito Yuuki taking the luckiest bath in the world and getting engaged accidentally to the cutest pink-haired anime girl of all time. She loves making inventions, often causing lewd events to occur. There's no explicit sex. It's absolutely worth a watch if you enjoy fun, light-hearted, easy to watch anime with fanservice.

The story is crap mainly because the main boy is a weakling and indecisive (cant make his mind up as to which girl he likes). They even leave it that way at the very end. Obviously he would like to have lala and haruka, but yet he feels some type of moral negative at the same time.

The animation/quality and ecchi is wonderful.

The sound fits. I especially like the opening.

Most of the characters are typical, although have enough uniqueness so that they are not totally annoying. lala is annoying because she is sqeaky and clumbsy. haruka is annoying because she just likes to blush and never accomplish anything.

Overall: The story which was comprised of annoying characters fails. I skipped from like episode 10 to 24 and watched the ending. I am glad I did as the ending did absolutely nothing more than what the rest of the boring annoying series did.

Excuse me for my totally emotional venting. lol peace

Story

The story is about a shy, clumsy high school boy name Rito that who cannot to confess his love, when he Lala in his bathtub, he freak out about haver her in his bathtub, then a mysterious 16 year mold girl name Lala who come from the planet Deviluke that she runaway from home for her father that wants her to come home to marry one of her marriage candidates, she would not return to home because she wants to stays with Rito on earth, she is more not knowing things on earth compared to Deviluke, Lala wants nto marry Rito, but Rito refuse much her dismay that it was in episode 4, this story that is was it needs a bit more funny, but really cool that is a Ecchi Comedy, especially the Panty Shots that I like to se, but I like the way how they make a great story about two couples where to be.

Animation

The Animation of this series is very rare of this design of the background was ok, but it's really good of the Animation to it's color of the seen, it's a good thing of the crew that can make a better Animation background instead of making and old background, so I give a 8 on the Animation Background.

Sound

I have not much of the sound, but give my short explanation

The sound i give an 7 although i'm not familiar regardless of the sound to the series, but it's ok based on it's opening and closing theme, even though the music is ok of the sound to that, but is unique of music when I here, but the sound needs more adjustments of the sound, but overall is ok for me, so I given a 7 to the sound.

Characters

The Characters of to love ru where should I start

The Characters are great in this show was awesome, Rito a 16 year High School student who used to be a soccer in junior team but later quit of because he was constantly helping his father with his manga artist duties,  Rito is sooo funny when he acts super crazy when react to anyone that who it is especially he doesn't like seeing girl's Panties, and he not comfortable when he sleep with a naked girl incase Lala, Lala is a 16 year girl is from a planet call Deviluke whose her family rules the galaxy, she is a childish girl that doesn't know about planet earth when she never been, she runs away from home because she would not get marry of any her suitors, Lala loves to get marry with Rito even that he doesn't wants to marry her in process, Lala is my best female character that I like, and I love her in her cute Panties that she wears or even gets naked when she sleeps with Rito of take a shower, but sometimes she gets naked in the public which in not familiar with that, but she my best girl then anyone else, and their is is Haruna who is Rito's classmate in his school, Haruna has similar feelings for him, she usually suppressesher feelings and cannot confess to him because of her friendship with Lalawho also loves Rito which later to be Lala's rival for her heart although I not much knowing about Haruna regardless of her friendship with Rito even if she try's to get attention to Rito, she will steal Rito's heart, she ok regardless of her actions when being friend to Lala, but she ok for me but i do like Lala as much as Haruna because Lala can be more fun then Haruna but she is great to me, overall the characters for the first series is great, that's I like the Ecchi Comedy anime.

Overall

The overall of to love ru is a great show regardless that is a Ecchi anime, but overall it should be the best not very best show that I can imagine that, but I'll will be one of the best shows that I can ever watch about, I like about relationship between Lala, Rito and Haruna for the fight of love that I like to see, so i give a show 8/10 of the Ecchi Comedy show, great show ever.

There are a bunch of things To Love Ru wanted to do with itself and it’s really sad it wasn’t able to hit the mark on anything. Sad for it, I mean, not for me, because I honestly couldn’t give a shit about this even if you paid me. It wanted to be ecchi, so it had some nude shots and brought out all of the tentacles. It wanted to be funny, so it made a lot of meta jokes and gave a bunch of side winks to the audience. It wanted its characters to come together to really be nakama, so it made all of the friendship speeches to win some approval. It wanted to play with a love triangle, so it introduced the single most annoying girl on this side of the anime spectrum, whose ditziness is so loud, even a still picture of her smiling face is enough to give me an aneurysm.

See, that’s a lot. If it managed to land at least one of those things, then it might have actually been decent enough to get one more point. But it goes through the motions of what it wants to be instead, so even if you have a plucky (read: boring) main character who makes his living by questioning everything around him, there really isn’t a lot else the series has going for it. It could have had its jokes, but even those got overused and re-told maybe 55 times each. So, you know, besides the annoying alien girl’s constant decibel-smashing squealing, even the show’s humor got all worn out.

The main thing that seems to be missing here is soul. Which is a weird thing to look for in a harem anime, I know, but that’s really the only thing that would have kept me interested otherwise. This was hard to binge, and each episode felt longer than it actually was. Those aren’t good signs for a series that’s supposed to be funny, and especially something that’s already supposed to be stimulating by virtue of sheer fanservice alone.

The only good thing about To Love Ru is that it’s given me a very nice, very funny collection of screencaps. You could say I’m just too old or too boring for a thing like this, to which I say, yes, I totally am. Now get off my lawn with that faux-hentai alien bullshit.

[This review was made for the Anime-Planet Secret Santa 2018 event. Otherwise, the only way you’d get me to watch this is if you paid me to do it – and that’s a very iffy if.]

Hello dear readers!

Since Therik has done an excellent job if trashing ‘To Love Ru’ I will try not to injure his 2008 review.

And I hate trashing anime... but this time it is necessary.

But I did have a few notes, based on recent site behavior for Anime-Planet.

—-

To Love Ru is the single worst anime ever made.

The melodrama elements come right out of bad US soap operas. So let's see what is here.

A teenage girl has run away from the Palace, grabbed a starship, put the autopilot in random mode and flown anywhere else, because her father, the Emperor of the Universe; wants to marry her off to one of his loyal retainers.

I told you, this thing stinks!

Upon her arrival on Earth, she appears to a young teenager, while he is taking a bath; rising out of the water, completely sans cloths, stoney butt naked.

The only important feature is her 40-inch triple “G” boobs. She is literally drawn a set of boobs with legs. At least this set of boobs are portable.

Told you, this thing stinks, and decends into terrible, with each passing episode.

She considers herself a genius, far from the truth. She functions largely on extreme doses of dumb luck.

Her new boyfriend, who actually wants nothing to do with Lala Deviluke, must express undying love for Lala, or her father (the aformentioned Emperor of the Universe) will vaporize Earth.

This story is built on nonsense, its just sad!

There is only a little light in this dark tome.

‘Darkness’.

Darkness is an android who reverses the postulate, ‘...I think therefore I am...’ to something like, ‘... I murder, therefore I kill for money...’. And is assigned the job, by the Emperor, to kill Lala’s new boyfriend. Then Lala’s father can haul Lala back home and everything can return to its usual state of boredom.

But this too fails to entertain eventually.

Now we get to Anime-Planet, and its recent behavior.

This site allows the posting of ‘Recommendations’ in the form of ‘... if you liked this, you will surely like that...’

The trouble us “To Love Ru” is so bad, it should NOT be paired with anything. And the pairings are far from a fair pairing. Everything paired, while not excellent, are a much better product than “To Love Ru”.

Besides, it is not even clear who ‘Ru’ is. Ever.

This ends my review. No one should view this anime, it remains that bad.
