His name is Tortov Roddle, and he is a traveler from Tortalia. Along with his unusually large companion of a pig, the slender Tortov travels from place to place, always finding a new and beautiful adventure at his destination. From islands carried on the backs of frogs, to delightful cafes, to movie theaters and giant bears, there's a wonderful story to tell in the diary of Tortov Roddle.
The Diary of Tortov Roddle and The Restaurant of Many Orders are both atmospheric anime with an unusual art style. While The Restaurant of Many Orders has more of a horror theme to it, if you are looking for something artsy you should check out both.
One dark and blustery night, a lone doctor is called to a village ten miles away in order to help with a sick patient. Quickly losing his servant to ill-intentioned hands and whisked away upon frightening horses, the doctor meets his young and ailing patient under the scrutinizing eyes of his family. It is here that the doctor will try to discover the root of the boy’s illness and also try to make some sense out of his own psyche.
Both are spooky art-house shorts based on the novels of famous writers (Franz Kafka and Kenji Miyazawa); both of them are quite atmospheric and feature very good, artistic animation, which are the only aspects I personally enjoyed. However, if you like one of these works, you should probably check the other.
Both are short & slow-paced movies based on Kenji Miyazawa's stories that involve some VERY weird supernatural things going on. The only aspects I personally enjoyed about these shorts are their atmosphere & artistic animation; however, if you liked the one, you should also check the other.
