Although both anime have very different settings they share a similar light heartedness and embrace over the top action which escalated dramatically as the respective series' progress.
The final test of Hibiki, Dita, Meia, Jura and their friends on the Nirvana draws near as the battle with their enemy's mothership approaches. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a Sci-fi action/adventure anime with a hint of romance and completely ridicules all the way through. Each time he gains a new ability I was rolling with laughter.
The same is true for Vandread, this is another Sci-fi action/adventure super mecha anime that again is completely ridicules, two guys on a ship of nothing but females who all want him.
Both start strong, deliver almost continuously, and end with a bang! They are defiantly worth watching.
In a world where humans are enslaved by beast men, there is one person who wishes to destroy it all: Morute, the leader of the World Destruction Committee. She sets out on a journey with an ancient artifact known as the "Destruct Code," a device rumored to have the power to destroy the world and turn everything back into sand. Along the way she finds two companions: the kind-hearted human Kyrie, and aspiring hero and beast man Toppi. Together the trio travels the world, always staying out of reach of the World Salvation Committee. Will they discover the secrets of the Destruct Code, and more importantly, succeed at destroying the world?
Both World Destruction and Gurren Lagann revolve around a group of humans banding together to rebel against the Beastmen. The plots are intriguing and involve some pretty over-the-top fight scenes.
The distant land of Esteria, once known for its magic and beauty, has fallen under siege by a demonic force. Meanwhile, Adol Christin, a young swordsman from Promarock, sets off on a journey to find Esteria. For fame? Fortune? Neither, it seems. Young Adol travels because of a feeling, a feeling of great importance that tells him to find Esteria for an unknown purpose. Now, with danger around every corner and demons at every turn, Adol must search for the six books of the lost empire Ys in an effort to save Esteria from evil forces, as well as to save the world itself!
Both animes are about innocent cities being attacked by monsters led by tyranical leaders. In both cases, the hero isn't that strong-willed, but has the ability to become stronger simply by believing in their selves. Simon's Lagann and Adol's cleria sword and armor are both powered by the will of their controllers.
