You could see Tenchi Muyo as Love Hina in space, though less ecchi and their love for the main character is expressed quite easily. Both can be catogarized under harem anime, though Tenchi focusses more on the story. If you missed the lack of story in Love Hina, check out Tenchi Muyo. Though if you like a heavier romance story than Tenchi muyo, check out Love Hina.
Both LH and Tenchi Universe have a teenage boy who is thrust into an awkward living situation with several teenage girls! The Tank Police are an elite unit that uses massive tanks to bring criminals to justice, yet many feel they do more damage than they are worth. Leona is a rookie, and within her first few days on the force she is already knee-deep in trouble.
In terms of basic plot, TENCHI UNIVERSE and NEW DOMINION TANK POLICE share little in common. But their spirits are in the same place. Both shows have an 80's music vibe, with colorful outfits and a rock-n-roll attitude. Both shows have naughty vixens with cat ears who cajole the good guys and occasionally assist. Neither show is serious or grim. You could breeze from one right into the other without missing a step.
Morisato Keiichi has always had bad luck. No matter what he does or how he acts, nothing seems to go his way. His bike frequently breaks down, his classmates take advantage of him, women ignore and scorn him, and on top of all that, he’s only 5'3". Belldandy grants Keiichi one wish to make up for all of his bad luck, but when Keiichi wishes for Belldandy to stay by his side forever... the trouble begins. Keiichi and Tenchi are two men who are surrounded by hordes of adoring women, and yet both somehow manage to stay single. Both anime share that distinct harem anime feel, while still managing to keep every single character lovable and interesting. If harem/romance comedy anime is your type of thing, both of these series will probably end up on your favorites list.
While the Tenchi OVA's were much higher quality than TU TV series, the AMG TV series manages the exact opposite. So it's highly recommended.
