Tekkon Kinkreet and Kemonozume feature two mismatched protagonists and their seemingly impossible plight against a huge crime syndicate/secret organization. The plot is sort-of grounded in reality, with some fantastic elements thrown in, but the climax comes straight out of nowhere, and is completely, over-the-top bizarre. I'm still not sure how I feel about that. Also! The characters designs are in the same style, and there's quite a bit of gore.

Extra

Extra

What do you get when you cross a robot, a baby, a parasol, and a homicidal personality? Just one of the players in a futuristic and violent game of life and death. Children with guns, demented astronauts, slick shade-wearing badasses, robots gone wrong and more clash in a bloody and frantic experience through the streets of a dystopic city.

Extra and Tekkon Kinkreet are both set in a hyper-violent (that includes children), visually-crowded (tons of tall buildings, electrical lines criss-crossing the city, and all manner of other structures every which way) city that gives them a very similar feel/atmosphere.

Paranoia Agent

Paranoia Agent

In the streets of Tokyo, a new menace has surfaced: Shounen Bat, a young boy who wears golden roller skates and a baseball cap, and likes to whack people on the head with a golden baseball bat. These seemingly unconnected and random attacks soon become a police investigation... but after all is said and done, is there a pattern to this chaos?

Both Tekkon Kinkreet and Paranoia Agent deal with psychological themes and do so in an interesting stylistic manner. When you get down too it, both are trippy anime which will make you think.

Bokurano

Bokurano

When a group of children discover a strange cave at the beach, their lives are forever changed. Inside they find a hide out filled with computers and a man named Kokopelli who gives them a curious offer: to participate in a special game in which they save Earth from fifteen giant monsters. To defeat the invaders, he will give them a powerful mecha of black armor. The children eagerly sign the contract, name their new weapon Zearth, and must now take turns to pilot it; but the 'game' is in fact all too real and the consequences of battle become the stuff of nightmares. With no option to cancel the contract, is there any way to stop the game before it is too late for all of them?

Well... both animes include children as the fighters and saviors. The main charectors are skrewed up but eventually find themselves and fight for what they believe in. Both animes are disturbing and suprising.... but end in a terrific way! watch the other if you watched one.
