Idols are heavily promoted multimedia stars. In Japan, they are adored by the masses and frequently perform at concerts or events; however, the idol industry is both competitive and harsh, and many involved have short-lived careers. These anime showcase all there is about the profession, from training, to being scouted by talent agents, to management and production.

These anime feature characters who struggle with a debilitating health condition, whether they're diagnosed with a terminal illness or a lifelong condition that impacts their way of life. Some illnesses may stem from a physical Disability. This tag doesn't include Mental Illness.

They may be twins who switch places, someone serving as a body-double for a celebrity or other person of importance, or a person pretending to be a deceased relative or friend. Not to be confused with Secret Identity, which defines characters who live a double life.

Incest is defined as romantic or sexual relations between people classified as being too closely related to marry each other. On Anime-Planet, we apply this tag when: 1) the characters are related by blood, or 2) the characters are related through adoption or marriage and have a long history together. If characters have just met through marriage and develop a romantic relationship, even if the taboo aspect is discussed, we do not apply this tag.

In these anime, infidelity is an important aspect of the story. Characters may be dealing with an unfaithful partner, or having an affair with someone else. Their actions may result in a Divorce or unplanned Pregnancy.

Characters in these anime receive an inheritance, typically from a relative who has passed away, and gifted them with riches, a mansion, or some other form of property. Common anime themes include receiving the inheritance, such as having to move to a new house; stipulations about the inheritance, such as having to marry; or squabbles amongst family members to split up the inheritance.

Insects are the primary component of these anime, whether they're giant, man-eating monsters or household pests of another variety.

These anime focus on romantic or sexual relationships between beings of two different species, such as Gods, Vampires, Robots, Demons, or others. The characters might be humans who are in a romantic relationship with a non-human, or non-human beings who fall in love with each other, such as an angel and a demon, an elf and a werewolf, or different kinds of animals. These anime fully or mostly take place on an island, whether the land mass is in the sea or floating in the air.

These anime feature a society that is physically isolated from the world. The populace might live inside of a walled or domed city, or are limited to a small island. Typically, the society is unaware of what exists outside of their borders in the Outside World, or are forbidden to go there.

These anime predominantly or fully take place in Italy.

Iyashikei (癒し系) is a sub-genre of Slice of Life anime that is designed to have a "healing" effect on the viewer. Iyashikei anime are typically Episodic, have little to no conflict, and showcase the characters' peaceful lives. These titles often take place in the peaceful Countryside, but can occur in a variety of other locations such as a home, workplace, or school. Common features include mellow atmospheres, soothing soundtracks, and gorgeous background art.

The Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition is a short film series by Studio Khara and Dwango. The project aims to showcase original animations, promotional films and music videos by a variety of directors and other staff.

Japanese mythology refers to any number of stories involving kami (deities or spirits), oni (ogres), and/or youkai (fey-like creatures). Anime commonly include ideas based on the creation myth, featuring Amaterasu, Susano-o, Izanagi and Izanami; tales of incredible beasts such as the serpentine Orochimaru; or stories of mortal deities or folk heroes like Momotarou.

Josei (女性), translated as "woman", is a demographic aimed at women from late teens through adulthood. These titles tend to be more mature, often focusing on realistic situations such as work life or romance. Josei is the counterpart of Seinen, a demographic aimed at older teens and men.

Journalism is the focus of these anime. Characters may be news anchors, photojournalists or reporters that work in the field, or people who work in a career involving newspapers, magazines, or other related areas.

These anime fully or mostly take place in a jungle: a tropical rainforest dominated by trees and dense vegetation.

Kendo is the focus of these anime. Training and competing in tournaments or championships are common themes in sports titles, as well as individual or team spirit, or being an underdog who goes against the odds to succeed.

Kickboxing is a Hand-to-Hand Combat sport that is similar to Boxing. Kickboxing features two unarmed opponents who kick and punch. These anime typically focus on characters training and then traversing amateur or professional circuits, earning fame and fortune with their skills.
