Asialand City is a bustling metropolis that is under attack! Strange monsters fill the streets, and heroes are needed - enter the Relaxation Combat Team Valerian! Comprised of three girls-turned-bunnies, the Valerians do whatever it takes to put a stop to the Stress Team - a group of evildoers who turn people's stress into monsters! From ramen monsters to beyond, there's nothing that Relaxation Combat Team Valerian can't handle!
One day in the lab, Professor Utonium, his son Ken and the digital pet Peach accidentally discovered the recipe for the powerful Chemical Z - after which large glaciers started to appear in the city! After firing the chemical into the glaciers, beams of white light fell from the sky onto three unsuspecting high school girls; and thus, the Powerpuff Girls Z were born! Now, the boy-crazy Momoko, popular Miyako and tomboyish Kaoru must protect Tokyo City from the evil monkey Mojo and other villains, while trying to live "normal" high school lives!
Sweet Valerian and Powerpuff Girls Z are both mahou shoujo anime about girls who fight baddies and save the world. The villains in each anime aren't terribly serious, and each anime's tone is lighthearted and aimed at children. If you liked one, you might like the other (but I didn't enjoy either).
Both of these animes have the magical girls who go out to protect the city. Many magical girl shows are the same (kinda) but I felt that these two were really close to each other.
They both create a magical group of three with each girl's personality different from each other. Besides the girls, the villians are the same since they both aren't taken very seriously.
The are style is really nice and the characters just pop out with the consistent bold lines used to draw them (though in D!PPGZ the bold lines don't always appear).
As you watch both D!PPGZ and Sweet Valerian, you'll notice the many similarities.
For centuries, the magic and human worlds have been at peace with each other, though physically seperated by a magical gate. But when the powerful magic spheres are stolen and fall to the Earth below, the king of magic sends Boss, a fighter; Lime, a master transformer; and Poogie, a master morpher to retrieve them. With not much time, the trio must retrieve the spheres which, when in contact with the human world, suck up the negative emotions of household objects and become BEMs, Bug Eyed Monsters!
Jewel BEM Hunter Lime is funnier, more interesting, and has a better story than Sweet Valerian. Sure, it doesn't involve transforming girls, but it has way more cute monsters and comedy. If you liked SV, try out the superior Jewel BEM Hunter Lime.
Uruno, a failure of a wolf, is currently traveling to find himself a new place to call home; but upon chancing across a rabbit, he attacks it only to realize that this particular rabbit is stronger than any predator! Soon afterwards he discovers that this entire forest he has come across is home to similar 'useless animals' that are atypical of their species. He decides to stick around when he meets his love interest in the form of a clumsy cheetah, and with his new friends, he meets the rest of the animals in the forest, causing much hijinx and fun in the process!
Both short and sweet, each episode is a self contained story that doesn't really add much to the bigger picture. Sweet Valerian and Useless Animals both leave you with a sense of wonderment at what you've just watched, and why you're reaching for the remote to put on the next episode.
With not a whole lot in common storywise, or character-wise, I make this recommendation purely because they are both a good way to spend a few minutes of time and will leave you with a (bemused) smile on your face.
Akiba-chan, Otome-chan, Riki-chan, Lillian-chan and Milk-chan are five friends who find themselves in a variety of quirky situations. Whether they are experimenting with an invisibility potion, making homemade chocolates, practicing for a school arts festival or playing games and doing homework, these friends will always have a good time and plenty of fun in the process.
Girls to the rescue! In Akiba-chan it's more about helping their friend out with day to day tasks where sweet valerian is about bunny girls saving people from monsters. either way girls must save the day in both these short ep anime. if you liked one check out the other.
