D.N.Angel

D.N.Angel

For Niwa Daisuke, turning 14 should be accompanied by romance and the promise of new adventures into adulthood, but instead comes with a surprising revelation: all male children of the Niwa's bloodline inherit the powers (alter ego) of Dark, a phantom thief, upon their 14th birthday! Now, in addition to his ever-present quest to win the heart of his childhood friend Risa, Daisuke must commit acts of thievery (with his doppelganger Dark controlling his body), to steal mysterious pieces of art for unknown purposes. For Daisuke, his growing pains are just beginning!

Both DN Angel and Stellvia are what I call "feel good anime". When looking at them, there isn't really anything similar; when reading about them on a site, they don't look appealing; yet when watching them, you're mysteriously drawn in and in the end you feel good, without being able to point your finger at what was so good.

While transporting bio-weapon lifeforms, Agent DD, member of an alien police force, is forced to crash land on Earth. Amidst the chaos of the crash, a bio-weapon escapes and DD is forced to fight it, while accidentally activating a Liberus, a liquid battle suit. Tsubasa, a shy girl, unwillingly comes into contact with the Liberius and is thereafter forced to fight for the survival of Earth.

Gundam Wing

Gundam Wing

The year is After Colony 195, and mankind is in the midst of a seemingly endless ongoing war between the Space Colonies and the ones who created them: the people of Earth. To give the Colonies the advantage, five mobile suits called Gundams were created. Equipped with enhanced technology and extremely talented young pilots, these are the ultimate machines of war. While Relena Peacecraft pleads for peace, Heero Yui leads the Gundams into the battle with Earth to attain it. As their personalities and visions clash, their goal is the same: freedom for all and peace at last.

Both these series take place in the future with one goal: Preserve the earth. Enjoy the journey as these characters gain experience and abilities.

Stellvia of the Universe and .hack//DUSK share in common extremely likeable characters and an engaging story that serves as the background for these characters. While Stellvia focuses more on character relationships, .hack//DUSK provides a decidedly fun outlook on its characters in a unique setting -- that of the MMORPG, "The World."

Kaleido Star

Kaleido Star

Sora is a sixteen year old girl who has travelled to the US to join the Kaleido Stage, one of the greatest circuses in existence. However, as luck would have it, she arrives to the audition late, which almost costs her the chance of a lifetime. Fortunately, she manages to join the Kaleido Stage anyways due to the compassion of Kalos, the owner of the troupe. With the help of her friends and Fool, the perverted spirit of the stage who has the ability to predict the future, Sora will overcome trials and tribulations and she struggles to become the Kaleido Star.

While these series have little in common when it comes to theme, genre, plot or character sub-types; they are very similar in tone. Both Stellvia and Kaleido Star are very hopeful shows with a complementary amount of realistic drama and a moderate dose of comedic relief.

Without being too sappy or too cute, these shows are near opposites to many of the darker and more twisted shows out there. If you are looking for something epic and uplifting and you liked one of these shows, you will surely like the other.
