Soon, they're off on an expedition to find the cause of the monsters and the truth behind the sorcery globe all while hiding the technology he brought with him. Ruin Explorers

Ruin Explorers

Ihrie and Fam are just two of the many explorers searching ruins for something called the 'ultimate power'. With the 'ultimate power' the owner has the ability to have any wish granted. Of course all the explorers have different motives for finding this relic, ranging from revenge on a curse-casting mentor, to saving a kingdom from utter destruction.

These are both relatively comic and light-hearted fantasy anime. Star Ocean EX is based off a Playstation RPG (it's good, really -- not all anime based off RPGs is bad), and Ruin Explorers is highly evocative of a silly D&D session. Both have amusing fantasy stereotypes, humor, action, and bright colorful animation and character design.

Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin

In the revolutionary Meiji period, Japan is undergoing enormous political change. It is a time when vagabonds and terrorists will use any method to prevent the modernization of their country, even if it means trampling on the innocent in the process. In such a time, Himura Kenshin, a wandering samurai, has dedicated his life to protecting the weak and desperate peasants from those who would oppress them. However, Kenshin has a dark past which threatens to destroy the values he is fighting for. When he meets his new friends Kaoru, Sanosuke, and Yahiko, and tries to build a peaceful life with them, events conspire against him. Can Kenshin overcome the demons within and without, and finally ensure the peaceful future that Japan deserves?

The epic story elements and presentation that both of these animes exhibit really helps out the characters, and gives an extra degree of urgency to the trials that face both Claude and Elle. Of course neither are AS epic as InuYasha, but that just drags on, so its all good

Shining Tears X Wind

Shining Tears X Wind

Souma and his friends were typical high school students, and members of the student council; but things changed when a cat girl named Mao appeared in the school, looking for someone named Zero. Souma accidentally breaks Mao's mirror which causes her, Souma and his friends to be transported to her world. In this world, Souma and the other male humans from Earth can wield soulblades drawn from people's hearts. His friends landed in different parts of a war-torn world, so they have subsequently broken up into separate factions and each person is working towards winning the war. His friends have become each other's enemies, and it's up to Souma to be the one to create peace without choosing which friends should die.

Shining Tears X Wind and Star Ocean EX are both based on RPG games. The main characters find themselves transported into another world, and must go on adventures to get rid of monsters that are attacking people, and make the world safe. The male leads are weak at first but they later improve considerably, as well.

Slayers

Slayers

Meet Lina Inverse, a mighty sorceress who fights evil in the name of... greed, gluttony and black magic?! When she meets Gourry, a swordsman whose skill with the blade is rivaled only by his stupidity, Zelgadis, a grumpy sorceror who's been turned into a golem, and Rezo, a priest known for his benevolence (with a dark secret), you know her adventures are just beginning!

Swordsmen and magic facing world threatening monsters, it's a very common theme between the two. Slayers fills it up with comedy, Star Ocean EX with romance, but you should enjoy both if you liked the action.
