I'm an avid fan of Spy Family, if you are too then you will enjoy this extension to the story. If you don't like Spy Family, you're a monster and this won't change your mind XD. The story does suffer from the same curse as many other anime movies in that it seems like the movie doesn't impact the core plot we've been watching very much. That said, it was awfuly fun to see the characters we know and love in a few new circumstances. The animation is on par with the show and fights are very fun. Anya's theme still makes me laugh. It's basically one long episode of Spy Family and that can never be a bad thing. I hope the series continues for a while yet because it is the most wholesome family on TV today regardless of genre or medium. Also, I want dessert now. Definitely going to blame it on this movie.
I adore the SpyxFamiy franchise and I've seen the original series multiple times. I watched this movie with my fiance and we both are of agreeance that it was nearly perfect. I went into this expecting it to be akin to SpyxFamily's usual set up and flow, that being leaning more into comedy with aspects of Loid/Yor's respective professions referenced/shown on the occasion. Instead, it was a rather an incredibly gorgeous stand alone film that I would highly recommend to just about anyone, not exclusive SpyxFamily fans. The film uses foreshadowing consistently throughout the film in such a way where the audience is continuously drawn in to smaller details while also being engaged. I know this is a rather weird thing to comment on, however I notice a lot of anime recently fails to utilize such a basic element of writing, which is perhaps why I felt so impressed with the movie. Nearly every single scene will have some important piece of information that will be referenced later inlaid within it. Overall, the writing is absolutely phenomenal and incredibly thorough. The animation, additionally, fails to disappoint at any point. Every single portion of the film is stunning and incredibly nice to look at, in addition the music compliments all the scenes perfectly. Combinations of intense orchestral pieces that semi-reference older spy movies interwoven with superb sound design allows the viewer to thoroughly witness every scene. Overall, extremely impressed and excited to hear more input from others about this movie : )
