Reasons you might like Death Note...

sgrby877 sgrby877 says...

Spiral is kind of like Death Note in the aspect that they are both a crime story-type of setting. The main characters are both searching for a specific person and being tested by other beings/powers. If you liked one, I think you'd like the other.

madcastle madcastle says...

Both main characters in these anime are super intelligent. They use their logic a lot, and solve mysteries. If there is something I am sure of in life, it's that if you like Spiral you'll definitely like Death Note too.

The main difference between the two is that in Death Note the man tries to become more godlike, and in Spiral he is just trying to solve the mysteries behind his brother's past. These are both excellent anime!

Cetonis Cetonis says...

Death Note and Spiral are each anime revolving around battles that are purely mental. No fists, guns, magic or mechs, just two sides trying to outsmart one another. Although Spiral isn't as deep or epic as Death Note, if you liked one of these anime and want some more mind games, be sure to try out the other.

faerieponey faerieponey says...

Spiral and Death Note are two anime that will make you use your brain while you watch them. If you're into this kind of anime, or you just like logical games then you should really watch both of them.

saerenna saerenna says...

Both focus on logic, and the main character is full of mind spinning ideas that astound the viewer. Also, there is the grey area instead of definined black and white of right and wrong, leaving it up to the viewer to decide(or not) who is ultimately 'right'.

duotrouble duotrouble says...

Both anime are considered to be a thinking person's anime. In Death Note, you get to watch two people's battle of wills as they go through very elaborate plans to either catch the killer or not be caught by the police. In Spiral, you witness one person tackle various challenges as he is repeatedly tested by a group of people trying to avoid police intervention.

Ddbill Ddbill says...

Both series push highly intellectual Plots with mind grabbing twists. They both keep you on the edge of your seat, wanting to find out more about the next step of the anime. If you like one, well, believe that you will love the other.

koutalied koutalied says...

this is another anime which has the same quick minded fast reaction pace and the fact that it has NO filler makes it better

youl love it

KiraRin KiraRin says...

If you, like me, enjoy a series that is much more intellegent and has some substance, then I think these shows are both for you.

The two main characters are highly intellegent, and have to use their wits to survive and get ahead in the world. Spiral is an excellent example in the mystery genre, whilst Death Note is an exciting mix of horror, drama and mystery.

Neither show uses special effects or pure action to win over the audience, so if you enjoy a good mind work out, I recommend both of these shows.

Sasukefanx12 Sasukefanx12 says...

If you like a good intellegent, mystery anime, both of these series are undoubtedly for you! in both of them there are a ton of battles, but not physical battles like you'd think, mental battles of wits, challenging puzzles and the like, one person constantly trying to outmaneuver the other. Somehow, both anime manage to reach out to your brain and pull you in, making you feel like you're in the same mind bending situations as the characters, causing you to think and maneuver right along with them. To top that off, both of these anime have bordering on maddening cliffhangers, but those make you want to kee watching. If you love to think logically, laterally, critically and deductivly while watching an anime, these are most definatly for you.

sothis sothis says...

Though Spiral is more of a straight detective series, both it and Death Note involve complex mysteries with deadly consequences - and both have an excess of deduction and dialogue as well.

brenda310 brenda310 says...

both anime showed the main character as an intelligent and rude/strong person who is able to think and act fast in a difficult scene or situation although death note has a darker side these two anime are great. well i'll say that if you like one you will love the other one...!

Korwin Korwin says...

Comparing to other recommendations Death Note has definitely the most in common with Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna, involving mind games, mystery and genius (or smartass in some perspective) protagonists who are disatisfied with the current situation and lifestyle.

mechasally mechasally says...

Both mysterious animes were you try to anticipate the ends and you enjoy how Ayumi and Light find solutions to the most hardest moments not to forget the end of each episode makes you want to watch the next!  <3

Reasons you might like Detective Conan...

elendil elendil says...

Do you like kid detectives? Detective Conan (aka Case Closed) and Spiral both feature kids out there....being detectives. Except that Detective Conan is a classic, which is clearly shown by the fact that its still going after 350 epsisodes, while Spiral 'stopped' at 26 episodes (and I say stopped because, I'm sad to say, this series has NO ENDING). If you actually like the mystery to be solved by the detective in the end, then don't bother watching Spiral, which never bothers to tell the viewer the main question that the kids utter to themselves throughout the whole show.

Himitsu Himitsu says...

I'm recommending Detective Conan if you liked Spiral for obvious reasons: they both involve an engaging mystery and detective story! If you love the brilliant deductions that Ayumu makes, you'll definitelly like Conan's spotlight in the anime Detective Conan. Detective Conan is enticing in every episode, and it'll continue get you to second guess yourself. The romance is utterly adorable as well~

Spiral and Detective Conan are about crime, mystery, and great detectives. If you like good detective stories then these are the shows for you.

chavo18 chavo18 says...

Both series are detective stories, which present different cases that are interesting enough to make you formulate your own deductions in order to solve the cases at hand. Although the mood of the characters in Spiral is much more serious than Detective Academy Q. If you liked one, you'd definitely like the other.

Angevon Angevon says...

Both are mystery-based, with characters' pasts and secrets slowly and interestingly revealed. Spiral is more based on life-or-death situations that the main character must get out of, while Q has more mysteries involving solving strange murders. In both cases, I can almost guarantee that you'll not figure out the solution before they do~

KiraRin KiraRin says...

Mystery and detective dramas have long been a genre I've not really made an effort to watch, but there are some that I have really enjoyed. Spiral and DAQ are 2 of those.

Both feature a super smart male protagonist and a cute and bubbly female sidekick. The constant guessing and playing along with the detective work is good fun, and the underlying stories are also interesting and make both shows a good watch.

If you enjoy one, you're sure to like the other.

St. Luminous is another mystery, which I think captures your attention even more. I couldn't wait to go from episode to episode. The animation quality is considerably less beautiful, but the plot makes up for it.

TheBurningCrow TheBurningCrow says...

Another great mystery anime. Much better animation quality, but an intriguing storyline.

The way these stories are presented seems similar to me. While the topics are not the same...the overall mood of each series might cause a person to like both for the same reason.

XMrNiceguyX XMrNiceguyX says...

What can I say: Both intruiging series witha really deep and mysterious plot. Though .hack//SIGN has some subtile, though less frequent, humor and plays in a fantasy world opposed to real life in Spiral.
