both series are about of fights of young people and the main point in common is the use on both series of the concept of weapons that are actually beings who talk and feel and are alive. Also you can see the relationship beetween the weapons and their users and how they protect each other. Awesome fights, nice humor, and great relationships of friendship and/or love, you'll surely like elemental gelade if you like soul eater and also the other way around.

AnimeNerd24 AnimeNerd24 says...

So if you like comedy and action with a bit of romance thrown in then you will love both Soul Eater and Elemental Gelade. In both, the protagonist (Maka in Soul Eater and Coud in Elemental Gelade) fight with a partner who just so happens to also be their weapon and best friend (Soul and Ren). As they fight together, you also see bits of romance developing between the two, moreso in Elemental Gelade than Soul Eater. Both are really, really great watches! If you'd like one, you should definitely give the other a shot!

MysticSecret MysticSecret says...

They both involve people turning into weapons, a cocky side-character, and amazing battle music. Though Elemental Gelade has less episodes and characters, it proceeded to tug on my heart strings with the main characters' romance.

This is a great feature for school. If this pops out of nowhere there would be some sort of interpretation. The colorful appeal and smashing visual could become a great place to frequent. Very interesting academics with this kind of response means something is going right. Am glad to see Soul Eater still up!

Fullmetal Alchemist is another Shounen series that likes closure and conclusion.  Like Soul Eater, FMA has plenty of action, a fair amount of silliness within the action, and a heap of creativity in how the characters use their abilities.

FMA tells a more robust and dramatic story that has better pacing though, so it's definitely worth a look if Soul Eater was your thing.

kieiPL kieiPL says...

Soul Eater and FMA are two shounen animes that have a lot of action and a good pacing. In terms of the story I think that FMA does a better job but Soul Eater' story is mostly well done too. I also found that both of these have in a way similar humor and a mix of both funny and serious characters.

Overall I would say that FMA has more dramatic story but despite this difference they have a similar feel to them.

Both series have good humor, a lot of action, funny/loveable characters and great animation (not to mention, Studio Bones produced both of them). If you liked one of these two, you'll defenitely enjoy the other one.

These series both do a great job of shifting from serious dialog and action to humor without losing its way. They both have great overarching stories and a few similar characters in an over the top way. If you liked one series, check out the other.

Black Butler

Black Butler

In Victorian England it is commonplace for the rich and wealthy to have a staff, led by a head butler, to run their households; the Phantomhive Estate is no different. The young and demanding Count Ciel Phantomhive, child owner of a toy company, lives in the grand countryside manor. Sebastian is his head butler, and the epitome of perfection; he effortlessly and gracefully completes his day-to day chores and fixes the countless mistakes of the other employees. However, whilst on the outside all seems prim and proper, a more sinister secret lies just beneath the surface. Sebastian is in fact a demon bound by a contract with the young count; he will loyally serve and fight for him in return for his soul.

both have quirky similar random humour (which is at excellent quality) and has simiar strange atmosphere to it, where it (in soul eater) is in a different gothic world whilst kuroshitsuji is normal life with many dark supernatural aspects (which also seem quite gothic). lots of action, some drama, lots of humour and great general anime :D

While these seem to be totally different plots and genres. The way they are drawn is quite interesting and similar and there are wacky, quirky characters in both anime. Both at the end of the series will leave you wanting more as well. If you liked one check out the other.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Kuroshitsuji and Soul Eater are both action / comedy shows with cast full of some funny, wacky and badass characters. While Kuroshitsuji definitely is the more comical AND darker of the two, and Soul Eater the more shounen-ish, I'm sure that if you enjoyed one of these shows for the blend of darkness, action, comedy and great cast, you'll enjoy the other as well.

Sewingrose Sewingrose says...

Both shows are set in an odd Japanese perspective on more Western show styles, working well, enjoying quirky story format, humor, and story telling. Both also indulge upon the concept of a dammed soul and do interesting things with it.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

Both have similar settings, taking place in a unique fantasy world.  The characters of each are unforgettable; from the eccentric, to the insane (and even sadistic).  The comedy in each is solid, and even in the dark parts of each, you'll find yourself laughing from the character interactions.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

Soul Eater and Pandora Hearts are dark shounen action/comedy/mystery/everything else-s that feature the fighting system of having two chatacters team up, one of which acts as the "weapon" of the other. This makes the way the casts (both of which are large and varied) "mesh" with each other fairly interesting.

chrissykoolprods chrissykoolprods says...

For some reason, they both have a simlar feel. In no way are they the exact same, for I think Soul Eater is much more a comedy than Pandora Hearts. (Although Pandora Hearts has Its moments)

They also seem to have some simlar characters. (Break/Dr.Stein) for example.

If you liked one, you'd love the other.

Both of these schools rely on the fighting ability of its students. To gauge this ability, the students form pairs that must find harmony together in order to advance their skills. Also, the weaponry is based on the individuality of each stident, their soul if you will. Humor and action are also pretty intertwined in these anime. If you liked those aspects, give the other anime a shot.

Both series are great series that nail down that very childish sense of humor with passing marks. I laughed my way through both series while still getting good action and good stories.

dunkyrok dunkyrok says...

The term that comes to mind for both of these Anime is 'chaotic comedy'. Viewers will immediately recognise the similarities between the two groups of main characters - many personalities, but the ones that show through the most are the brash, opinionated and yet occasionally still shy characters of Laharl and Etna in Disgaea, and Soul, Black Star and Kid in Soul Eater. Indeed, Kid and Laharl share another trait in that they are both the sons of immensely powerful and well respected figures.

The style of both Anime is also comparable - both studios are obviously comfortable in using different delivery methods within the same scenes to emphasise and exaggerate the story and the character's emotions - and the fantasy worlds in which the stories unfold are comparable too for their strange dark undertones that are represented in imaginative and colourful ways.

Buso Renkin

Buso Renkin

Some things in life are so bad that you'd like to pretend they're just a dream. Unfortunately for Kazuki, trying to save a strange girl from being brutally killed by monsters (and ending up dying instead) is an unfortunate reality. Out of pity, the girl replaces Kazuki's heart with an alchemy-based artifact known as Kakugane, so that he may live on. With this strange device, Kazuki gains the power of Busou Renkin -- Arms Alchemy; a power that will come in handy when monsters (and worse) begin to plague his town! Kazuki soon meets the girl from his “dream” (named Tokiko) in reality, and she tells Kazuki to get on with his life; but with his sister and friends in danger, that might not be possible. Besides, if Kazuki gives up the chance to show off just how manly he can be, how can he hope to win the heart of the alluring older-sister-like Tokiko?!

Both Busou Renkin and Soul Eater are battle series with magical/enchanted style weapons and superpowered enemies.  Busou Renkin has the alchemic warriors using their Busou Renkins to fight off the homonculous, and Soul Eater has Meisters and Weapons fighting together to defeat the evil Kiishin souls and witches.  Both series have a lot of action, with some comedy mixed in for good measure.  And as a minor correlation, both series involve a school setting.  Busou Renkin has Kazuki Muto and Tokiko Tsumura spening a good portion of their time at the local high school, while Soul Eater has it's cast spending a large amount of time at the Death Weapon Meister Academy (or DWMA) where Meisters and Weapons study and train hard to fight Kiishin souls, Witches, and ultimately for Meisters to turn their Weapon partner into a powerful weapon.  I have a strong feeling that if you liked one, you'll like the other.

Both offer nice fight scenes but also have a story of the characters' relationships. At first I was bummed that this was only a single hour long OVA and that was that. The characters were easy to get attached to and an hour was more than enough time to grow to love the story which accounts for my initial reaction. If you were offered one bite of the best food in the world, would you take it for what it's worth or pass it up completely?
