Meet Lina Inverse, a mighty sorceress who fights evil in the name of... greed, gluttony and black magic?! When she meets Gourry, a swordsman whose skill with the blade is rivaled only by his stupidity, Zelgadis, a grumpy sorceror who's been turned into a golem, and Rezo, a priest known for his benevolence (with a dark secret), you know her adventures are just beginning!
This is a story that follows Elk, a boy blessed by the spirit of fire. When Elk was a child his village was destroyed by a dark force that now seeks to plunge all humanity into chaos, by releasing the great darkness that is sealed within the Ark of the Spirits. Elk, along with Arc the chosen hero of the spirits and the brave crew of the silver noah, fight for the hope of all mankind.
These two anime are both similar and different in several ways. The setting is the same with a magical world and characters having similar powers. Yet Lina is completely different from Elk as a main character. Watch the differences between the main characters' actions as they go through a somewhat similar story.
Born beneath the gallows tree from which his dead mother hung, Guts has always existed on the boundary between life and death. After enduring a terrible childhood, he spends his adulthood in brutal combat, pitting his strength against others in order to build his own. Life is simple enough for Guts until he meets Griffith, the inspirational, ambitious, and beautiful leader of the mercenaries, the Band of the Hawks. When Guts loses to Griffith in a duel, he is forced to join the group, and, despite himself, finds a sense of camaraderie and belonging amongst them. However, as Griffith leads his soldiers from victory to victory, the bloody wars and underhanded politics reveal a side to him that nobody quite expected. Can Guts, a simple warrior, defend those who have come to mean the most to him, all the while struggling not to lose to the darkness he has carried with him his entire life?
What those two anime have in common is the world that the action takes part in - the one that resembles Medival Europe, yet have many witches, deamons and knights. Apart from that, you will encounter a group of friends in their long journey, when they must fight with enemy, and sometimes even with each other. Be aware though that Berserk is much more serious, while Slayers is full of humour.
Hitomi wanted to just disappear from her life. The track club -- her best friend -- her parents -- she wanted it all to just...go away. While contemplating suicide, her wish is fulfilled by an unlikely savior: a man named Folken who brings her to his world, Gaea, to unlock the powers of the legendary Dragon, Escaflowne. But there are those who would stop at nothing to foil his plans, and chief among them is Van, the last warrior of a noble clan. Caught up in this epic struggle, Hitomi must find herself before she can find a way home.
Escaflowne's main character and Lina Inverse share a similar responsibility for the fate of their respective worlds in these two anime. Escaflowne is a lot darker than Slayers, but it has some comedy aspects as well.
F City, F Prefecture: the battleground where good and evil have finally chosen to decide once and for all who will rule the world…or at least that's the general idea! Neither side seems up for the task, as surviving the brutality of everyday life is enough of a chore. On the side of evil is the organization of Across, its only member the loudmouthed and abrasive Excel who struggles just to put food in her stomach; on the side of good, three disenfranchised, unemployed bachelors whose only pursuit in life is romance. Add in alien invasions, jungle warfare, and Mexican immigrant laborers to Japan, and this war doesn't seem likely to be ending soon!
Both of these slapstick style adventure stories feature tons of gags and an over energetic red headed heroine. While Excel tends to be much more goofy, the general concept of a self proclamed sence of justice remains in both chacters. Both Excel and Lina have voracious appitites except Lina's the only one who gets to eat anything.
Once upon a time, two brothers passed the happy days of their childhood by studying alchemy, which is governed by the equal transfer principle: an eye for an eye -- you can't get more than you give. But these brothers tried to defy that law, and a horrific accident resulted. Now, the older brother, Edward, is called the Full Metal Alchemist because of his metal limbs, and the younger, Alphonse, is a soul without a body, trapped within the confines of an automaton. Together they search for the power to restore themselves, to find the lives they lost so long ago...
Both FMA and Slayers have a main character who is a child prodigy in powerful fields. In this case, Edward is an alchemy prodigy, and Lina is a sorcery prodigy.
They also get made fun of due to their physical flaws. I.E. Edward hates being called short, and Lina hates being called flat-chested or small-breasted. X3
