Saiunkoku Monogatari

Saiunkoku Monogatari

In an ancient and mythological land called Saiunkoku, the people have begun to recover from a period of war and famine; thus, when an official from the imperial court offers the impoverished and beautiful Shuurei more money than she could ever dream of in return for a favor, she jumps at the chance. What she doesn’t count on, however, is being asked to become a concubine to the recluse Emperor and help him transform into a better leader. What’s more, the Emperor shows little intelligence, seems to have no interest in ruling, and is rumored to prefer men. One thing’s for certain: Shuurei has her work cut out for her!

Although Kyoko is pursuing revenge in Skip Beat! and Taiga is trying to win love in Toradora!, these shows have much more in common than emphatic titles. Both young women are determined to get what they want and have their eyes locked upon one young man, though their intented outcomes with this boy vary drastically. Still, along the way, both Taiga and Kyoko discover something deeper inside themselves, and this new knowledge changes everything.

To-Y

To-Y

To-Y is the handsome singer of GASP, an indie band with a bad reputation. But mere days before their first big gig, To-Y is approached by an agent who wants him to be the next big thing...a ridiculously popular teen idol. Offers like that don't come everyday, and the music industry is harsh to those who try to rebel against it. But can he sell out and abandon his band mates when they're on the brink of fame? Exactly. And after that, it becomes a matter pitting artistic integrity and rebellion against commercial easy-listening with full industry backing...

Rivalries abound in both shows, Skip Beat! and To-y highlight the struggles endured in the climb to fame. This includes dealing with rivals, inner turmoil, and other drama. If you like the band/fame aspect in one show you should give the other a shot.
