Synopsis:

Kaede is a devoted high school student who lives with her adopted brother Rin. She holds a quiet confidence that one day, when Rin finally starts showing interest in sex, he will make the obvious choice and turn to his loving sister. But what Kaede wasn’t counting on was the lords of heaven and hell coming to Earth, wanting Rin to mate with their nubile daughters! Rin, like any teenager would, takes full advantage of his newly acquired harem; but how long can he keep up his carefree, boxed-lunches-on-the-rooftop lifestyle, as the horde of girls on his tail grows?

Happiness!

Happiness!

In a world not unlike our own, mages are commonplace and schools are separated between normal students and magic users. Yuma Kohinata is a student at one such school, Mizuhosaka Academy. On the way home from buying chocolates with his androgynous friend Jun, Yuma is given chocolates from school idol Haruhi Kamisaka; things become even more complex once the magic wing of the school has a gas explosion, displacing all of the magic students into the normal section – including Haruhi! Now, Yuma finds himself thrust into the world of magic, and must deal with the various women who vie for his affections; can he juggle his priorities and continue to pass his classes?

Kanon is similar to Shuffle! because they are both based on the choice of the lead male charecter. Kanon offers less if any ecchi (if you count big well hidden breasts under sweaters ecchi) and has little comedy. It is more romantic and emotional story. Its not exactly like Shuffle! but it is similar in many aspects.

Lovely Complex

Lovely Complex

Lovely Complex is a story of a boy and a girl. The girl, Koizumi Risa, is much taller than the average Japanese girl; and the boy, Atsushi Otani, is much shorter than the average Japanese boy. Due to their immense difference in size and constant bickering with each other, the duo is unwillingly the school’s comic relief. As Risa and Otani continue to provide endless laughter for the masses, their friendship develops; and with that, so does Risa’s feelings for Otani...

Some people need to be smacked in the face with love before they realize how deeply they've fallen - literally! Both Lovely Complex and Shuffle are about a quest for love and the heartache between unlikely pairs. Shuffle! holds more of a harem mentality, but the wild antics and heartfelt sentiments are similar features for both series.

My-Hime

My-Hime

Guided by a star only they can see, a group of maidens known as HiMEs have begun to gather at Fuuka Academy. These young women have been endowed with dangerous supernatural powers that they can use to their heart's content, but there's a price: to wield them, they must put their most important thing on the line. Now, in the midst of school work and friendships, they find themselves caught in the midst of strange conspiracies seemingly related to the terrifying monsters that attack them. Is the power of the HiMEs strong enough to save themselves and the ones they love?

This recommendation is a bit unusual, read on at your own risk only :-) SPOILER AHEAD: ------------------------------------------- The thing that connects Mai Hime and Shuffle is the development of the story, and the fact that after 2/3 of the series, the seemingly comedial and lighthearted story is turned upside down and the rest becomes much more interesting and darker. For this reason I can recommend both - keep watching even if you found the beginning of the series to be uninteresting, yet funny.
