This is an old children’s adventure movie, amongst the first I watched on VHS back in the 80’s. It was quite interesting back then; but today, who’d give a damn about it? The story is mostly about friendship and ecology but the general plot is crazy and unrealistic.

Graphics and sound are really old and are full of mistakes in continuous frame coloring and sound coordination. There is even a scene where two Africans are colored white and look scared at each other (probably an in-joke of the animators).

Although colors and sound ruin a lot of it, the battle choreographies are decent and save the rest of it. There are many fighting scenes that are interesting to watch as the characters do some really cool Hollywood-like moves. Plus, the huge monster battles are also done in a reasonable way and look as natural as possible. There is even a gorgeous blonde chick and a typical major villain in the end for a climactic end to keep you interested (a lame trick, but it works).

The story is essentially a Tarzan imitation, with lots of action and some American propaganda in the end. (spoiler alert!)

An African wise warrior finds and raises a white boy, in Kenya of the 1930’s. They face together several violent native tribes and save a white, blonde girl they worshiped as a priestess. They even take on huge monsters with the aid of the Protector of the Jungle, a really BIG snake. And then, they bump on a secret German base, where (typically in Hollywood movies) insane Nazis are about to complete an atomic bomb and turn the tides of war. In general, the story is insane as those Nazis in it, the characters have weak presence and only the girl actually matures a little.

Yes, it’s a crazy story but is very enjoyable if you don’t try to reason it. Those action scenes are really cool for their time. Yet don’t expect anything great in overall; it is actually completely mindless.

And now for some excused scorings.
