While visiting his hometown, junior high school student Michishio Nagasumi's life was changed forever when he nearly drowned. Though he was saved by a mermaid named San, there’s a catch -- her family is part of a merfolk mafia, and they abide by a strict rule: If a mermaid is discovered by a man, either he or the mermaid must die. That is, unless the man marries into the family! Faced with such a decision, Nagasumi can only oblige their customs and become a "happy" newlywed. Now, with a new school year around the corner, Nagasumi must find a way to deal with his new bride, keep her true nature a secret, and most importantly, escape inevitable death at the hands of San's over-protective father’s gang!
Fifteen-year-old Tsukune Aono is average in every way; he has no hobbies, less-than-stellar grades and he's even flunked his high school entrance exam. His parents have managed to enroll him in a school, but it's no ordinary school! Tsukune will be attending the Youkai Academy, a place where monsters learn how to co-exist with humans! As the werewolves, vampires, witches and other monsters are required to retain their human forms, Tsukune - the lone human - is able to avoid their bloodthirsty gazes. However, he quickly attracts the attention of a number of devilish beauties including the vampire Moka, a busty succubus and even a young witch! It seems Tsukune's average life isn't so average anymore!
Both of these anime involve a boy that gradually finds himself surrounded by supernatural women. The main girl is rather ditzy until she has to defend the people she cares for. With others vying for the guy's attention, school life, and trying to keep the girls' powers a secret, these anime are pretty similar.
The second year of high school is starting and things are still as crazy as always. Despite numerous attempts, the ever-so-hopeful Harima and the overly-naïve Tenma failed to get their message of love across. Now they are pumped up for a new term and ready to renew their illustrious and self-destructing attempts at a confession! But be it a love infested manga or even a gigantic plate of curry; nothing seems to do the trick. What other methods can they take, as the old love triangle is expanding at an alarming rate?!
Seto no Hanayome and School Rumble 2 are both great slapstick, school life, comedy anime. They share the same random kind of humor. You have to see these anime if you like this kind of comedy.
Seto no Hanayome has slightly more action, but School Rumble was in my opinion a bit funnier.
There’s never a dull day in lives of the Hekiyou Academy student council! President Kurimu has a sweet tooth and neglects her duties with ease, while secretary Chizuru skillfully manipulates those around her. Otaku Mafuyu obsesses over writing online walkthroughs, and is constantly hounded by Ken, the only male of their crew and an eroge addict who has the ultimate goal to turn the entire council into his harem. Luckily for Mafuyu she’s protected from his advances by Minatsu, her sporty and tomboyish sister! Together, the five repeatedly struggle in their fight against boredom, making constant otaku references and fighting against the journalism club along the way!
Minato Sahashi was living a normal life; he had just failed his college entrance exam for a second year in a row, and lived a quiet life in a single's apartment. That is, until the busty Musubi fell from the sky on top of him! She is a Sekirei, one of 108 that are destined to fight each other until only one remains; and he or she will ascend to heaven with his or her chosen one known as an Ashikabi. Minato soon finds himself in the embrace of Musubi, becoming her Ashibaki - but his life will only become more complicated. Musubi isn't the last to claim Minato as her Ashibaki, and what's worse, plenty of other Sekirei and opponents stand in his way!
Both of these anime are about a young man that stumbles upon an underground society by coming into contact with a beautiful, powerful, but somewhat ditzy young woman. While Seto no Hanayome isn't techinically a harem anime, it has a similar feel to Sekirei. With awkward situation, girl fights, and plenty of comedy, these two are pretty alike.
Kaede is a devoted high school student who lives with her adopted brother Rin. She holds a quiet confidence that one day, when Rin finally starts showing interest in sex, he will make the obvious choice and turn to his loving sister. But what Kaede wasn’t counting on was the lords of heaven and hell coming to Earth, wanting Rin to mate with their nubile daughters! Rin, like any teenager would, takes full advantage of his newly acquired harem; but how long can he keep up his carefree, boxed-lunches-on-the-rooftop lifestyle, as the horde of girls on his tail grows?
Guys never get a break, and the guys from Shuffle! and Seto no Hanayome are no exception! Whether it's the girl dragging him around or the fathers "reminding" him not to try anything funny; the stories skillfully pull off a good romantic/comedy and manage to fit in slice-of-life elemts while keeping it fun to watch! Both highly recommended.
