Darker than Black and Senkou no Night Raid center around a small sect of secret operatives who receive their missions from an older man. Main characters in each have super powers and missing siblings, and both plots revolve around global conflict, espionage, and political intrigue.

Galadriel Galadriel says...

Darker than Black and Senkou no Night Raid feature small secret organizations receiving tasks from a certain man. The protagonists from each show feature superpowers and most importantly missing siblings and both revolve around global tensions, war conflicts, espionage and political issues. My guess is that if you liked one you'll definitely enjoy the other one as well.

The obvious difference between these shows is the setting: fictional in DtB and historical in Raid. Also, DtB is generally superior to Raid with better ambience & production values. Aside from that, they're similar like siblings which comes as no surprise considering the same scriptwriter involved. So, fans of one might enjoy the other.

Set amidst a backdrop of bustling Chinese metropolises, Canaan and Senkou no Night Raid are action shows about super-powered characters and conspiracies. Both have really pretty backgrounds and some similar characters (I'm looking at you, energetic Chinese girl selling foodstuffs).

Set in a vast Chinese city landscape, Canaan and Senkou no Night Raid have an action packed sequence.  Both series are filled with characters that have special abilities and have to solve some sort of mystery.

Galadriel Galadriel says...

Both Canaan and Senkou no Night Raid are set in a Chinese landscape. Both of them feature amazing action sequences and protagonists possessing psychic powers. Both of them are early works featuring beautiful animation and directing and both share alot of plot elements and character elements as if they were related. If you liked one you will enjoy the other one as well.

Most anime series are set in Japan, which is pretty lame. Senkou no Night Raid and Baccano!, on the other hand, are action series set in 30s-era Manchuria and America respectively, which are especially rare settings for the medium.

Fans of unique atmosphere are sure to enjoy both. Especially Baccano!, as it's far superior.

Before I make this rec, I must first make it clear that Millennium Actress and Senkou no Night Raid have few/no similarities in terms of theme, characters, plot, atmosphere, and merit (Millennium Actress is MUCH MUCH better).

However, both are set (at least partly) in 30s-era Japan-dominated Manchuria, a rare setting for anime. If you liked the tumultuous political climate of either, you may enjoy it in the other.

These are both slow-paced dramas (Senkou more serious and Occult more humorous) that are part of the same "project" (Anime no Chikara) and have an overall similar aesthetic with a sci-fi/fantasy backdrop.
