The resulting surgery brought about some unexpected, but not entirely unwelcome changes -- enhanced healing along with the presence of a superweapon dubbed "ARMS" in his body. Project ARMS and s-CRY-ed have a very similar feel and tone. In each, several characters have special abilities and as a result are subject to a degree of persecution by some people, while others attempt to use their abilities to their own end. There are plenty of fights between individuals with special abilities in each, all of which are pretty exciting. Both are solid series, so if you enjoyed one, you are sure to like the other.

Psychic Academy

Psychic Academy

Ai has always lived in the shadow of his brother Zero, one of the strongest psychics of this generation. After Ai's aura tests true and he is recommended to the Psychic Academy (where his first love Orina attends), he sets off to follow his path. Once arriving in this chaotic place, where people can fight using just the power of their auras, new friends (such as the well-endowed Myuu) are drawn to his side. As he is forced to fight against those who hate psychics and psychics alike, he is also faced with a difficult choice: the girl from his past, or his new fiery soulmate?

Both of these series have strikingly similar plotlines. In both series, there arises a new sub-population of people with extraordinary powers of a psychic nature. In psychic acadeny these powers are known as "auras", while in s-cry-ed they are known as "alters". In both series, each person has their own individual type of aura/alter. Each series also has a governmental group that is seemingly trying to corral & educate these special people, but which seem to have something more sinister up their sleeves.

Psychic academy has a lighter tone than s-cry-ed, but if you liked the plot of one, you will also like the other.

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is all about style, from the dj-style scratching scene changes to the hip-hop-inspired soundtrack to the eclectic character design. Mugen's fighting style is a funky meld of capoeira and limb-cutting, and Jin is the dramatic foil; he is all steel and old-school samurai style. What binds them together is the desire to test each other's abilities, and a promise to a girl named Fuu: to find the samurai that smells of sunflowers, who plays a pivotal role in her past. Together they travel through edo-era Japan, finding battle and comedy wherever they stop.

Uriel1988

Both are action-packed stories that focus on two warriors with a contrasting philosophies towards combat and life: one is a free-spirited, boisterous soul who relies on instinct and determination (Mugen and Kazuma) whereas the other is a taciturn, disciplined soul who beats his opponent through skill honed through training (Jin and Ryuhou).

Both series spend a large part of their running time exploring the contrast between the two outlooks and even have the protagonists adopt elements of his opponent's outlook as part of his character developement.

Veteran and newcomer warriors of justice alike compete in a reality TV show that offers points for apprehending criminals while giving champions' sponsors a chance to promote their brand. When the low-ranking Wild Tiger loses his backing after a string of outrageous, botched rescues, he finds himself paired with an up-and-coming spotlight-seeker called Barnaby. But with their wildly different personalities, will the pair be able to save their beloved Sternbuild City and win the game show, or will their constant tension be the undoing of the world's first hero team?

The main characters have simple ideals about defending their friends and being a hero, and now that I think about it, they both have brute-force punching fighting styles. T&B has higher production value with the same sort of "good will prevail" story.

The witches in this anime are hunted and controlled in a similar fashion as the alters. The series is a bit darker and goth styled but I liked the question of morality about controlling people with special abilities in both.
