Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and School Days are dramatic, intense, and among the few romance anime that, I find, really elicit powerful emotions in me towards their characters.

Don't expect fairy tale endings here, but do expect some of the most provocative and discording plots!

The both are not for the faint of heart!

mis4tune mis4tune says...

Real life is hard, that's for sure. School Days and KgNE show us the consequences of human actions toward other humans, and are truly art. If you like dramatic/unpleasant situations then these are the anime for you.

Weeqay Weeqay says...

KGnE and School Days' storylines are rather twisted, and most of the time you are unsure as to whether you like what's happening or not. If you like this kind of feeling of uneasiness and are not afraid of having to watch helplessly how the ending you would like most drifts away as far as possible, then make sure to watch both series. They really are dramatic at some points; School Days is a bit more extreme in that point however.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

The main characters in Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and School Days have similar situations in which they are stuck, and they have no choice but to deal with them. The main boy has to decide which girl he really likes and what is truly in his heart. They are both intense dramas and each series has emotionally disturbing aspects.

matteas matteas says...

KgNE and School Days are very similar. They are about a boy/man who has just started to date somebody, and the two of them are supported by another girl. The problem is that the girl who is cheering them on loves that boy too. The situations become more complicated as the stories progress.

Both series play on people's sensitivity and ability to feel sorry for someone. If you saw and liked one of these series, you'd certainly like the other one too.

AnimeBoi AnimeBoi says...

The complex storyline makes these storylines very addictive. Plus, the character development as these series goes on is very noticable and interesting to watch. Basically, if you love to see charcters make difficult desicions and watch the results of their actions play out, you'd love these series.

viento viento says...

Two romantic anime series of the harcore type. By hardcore I mean realistic anime that will shock you. SD starts pretty much like KgNE. A boy must choose one of two girls, one of whom is the weak type and the other is tough. In fact, I was so sure that SD was just a KgNE clone that I didn't bother watching it past the 8th episode. I thought I didn't miss anything. I was wrong. When I watched the last 4 episodes later, SD tured out to have a very different ending. However, the shock was the same. SD reproduces KgNE's impact on the watcher without duplicating it. You liked KgNE and wonder what the next romantic anime should be? Well, School Days is the perfect choice for you.

Saufkultur Saufkultur says...

School Days and Kimi ga nozomu eien have both a tragic, but somehow romantic story and an unique ending. I think people who liked one of the anime will like the other one as well.

risuta risuta says...

School Days and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien are about romance, friendship and really complicated and frustrating situations! They both have funny moments but also tragic events occuring in the lives of the main characters. Finally both have characters that you will either love or hate so much, you'll be banging your head on your keyboard and swearing loud enough for your neighbours to hear! Thus, I believe that if you liked one of them, you'll enjoy watching the other!

TropicalMist TropicalMist says...

I first finished watching Eien before watching School Days... and I can see why people say that there are so many similarities between them.

The story starts off the in the same manner... A likes B... C is A and B's friend and tries to hook A and B together... but C likes A... and bum bum bum! the plot starts to develop...

I feel that both the male protaganists also seem to handle the situations very similarly. They like to avoid confrontation at all cost... which is also what makes me think that they also lack personality. However, they DO develop and learn

However, while Eien lacks the "surprise" ending that SD offers, it does leave the audience with a definite solid ending.

jurexplay jurexplay says...

Romance, drama a bit of comedy and love triangle. You will find it all in these anime. Even a bit more, but I don't want to spoil it. It's not that I think they are SO similiar e.g. I loved KGNE for everything it had and I hated School Days for almost everything it had. Still there's too many similarities in plot so not recommending them would be a sin (have nice time watching SD you will need it ...).

Chigun Chigun says...

Both School Days and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien have a story that revolves around one man and many women. both school days and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien have great twisting plots that will leave you shocked and amazed. just as in school days Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien has a heart felt story line that will leave you wanting more and more. Just like School Days this anime has an extremely surprising ending which will leave you shocked! Heck this anime might even make you cry at the end. if you enjoyed school days you will definitely enjoy Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien

SypherSan SypherSan says...

KgNE and School days are like one in the same. both have epic and compeling plots that will have you in a strong sense of emotion twords one or more of the main characters. both animes are tragic, and a non plesent happy ending, but both are fabulus pieces of art and story. if you liked one you'll like the other, but i wouldint reccomend both back to back with eachother if you have a soft heart, because both are extremly dramatic and will leave you speachless at its conclusion. so i Highly recommend watching KgNE if you like School Days.

BurntFlower BurntFlower says...

School Days and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien are very similar in many ways, especially in plot and characters. In both of these series you'll find the usual stereotypical characters that are pretty common in this type of anime: The painfully shy girl who obsessively loves the male lead, the tomboyish, outgoing girl who becomes more and more angsty and melodramatic as the series goes on, and the male lead with barely any personality whatsoever. Both anime also have a soap opera-like love triangle that is the cause of much angst in both shows, and due to contrived reasons (mainly due to the male lead's extreme indecisiveness), it continues. However, whereas Kimi ga Nozomu Eien ended in a bittersweet way, School Day's ending was brutal and violent. I'm positive that fans of one show will definitely like the other.

sothis sothis says...

KgNE and School Days focus on one douchebag main character and the girls whose love he unfairly covets.  Both focus on mature issues (KgNE being far more realistic as a whole and less shitty on all fronts), whereas School Days ends how you wish KgNE would in your wildest dreams...

Zaig Zaig says...

Both anime have a male protagonist who can’t make up his mind between relationships, going back and forth between them. High levels of drama are existent in the two anime, much like a soap drama (one has the typical “person in coma” and the other has cheating). If you like your romantic dramas exceedingly dramatic, check the other out.

Jdogtoocool Jdogtoocool says...

I agree with the above comments. Even though School Days takes the Visual Novel route in the way the plot is set up, Rumbling Hearts is a relatively stronger drama and in every way, shape, and form the better production. If you like one I'm sure you'll love the other.

When They Cry: Higurashi

When They Cry: Higurashi

Maebara Keiichi, an ordinary high-school boy, has transferred to a new school in Hinamizawa, a small rural village. At the outset everything seems peaceful and Keiichi becomes friends with a nice group of schoolgirls with whom he spends many idle summer afternoons. Suddenly violence encroaches upon the blissful peace of the village and Keiichi becomes entangled in an endless cycle of fear and death. The inconsistent, but inevitable horrors of Hinamizawa are told and retold becoming an endless and inescapable nightmare of insanity. Will it end even if the mystery of Hinamizawa is solved?

If you liked School Days, you'd also like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni because they both have a school environment setting. Also, both main characters (Makoto and Maebara) have problems dealing with relationships. They also don't undergo an epiphany, but these two series are a thrill to watch.

School Days awoke my thirst for twisted stories and Higurashi satisfied it. If you like the ending of School Days you will surely like Higurashi's story.

Both of these series have a dark atmosphere to them and have that special something that keeps you begging for more.  If you enjoy an anime with people breaking down in despair and doing horrible things, then these are the anime for you. Higurashi has more gore and violence than School Days, but if you enjoyed one then you are sure to enjoy the other.

heeheechamona3221 heeheechamona3221 says...

Out of every anime I have ever seen, no two shows are more alike than School Days and Higurashi. I can't go into too much detail because doing so would spoil one or both of these masterpieces, but I can definitely say that both shows center on a group of characters in which mistrust and lack of communication leave the world in pieces. For those of you out there who really enjoy watching a train-wreck, (I admit it, I do), both of these are must-sees.

dokurochan dokurochan says...

While Higurashi is more violent and horror and school days is more romance there are similarities as characters from both animes are pushed to the extreme due to their huge love of someone. if you liked one you should like the other.

Kiyohime Kiyohime says...

Both these animes start off light hearted and simplistic, boringly so, but as it continues chaos, drama, and craziness insue. Both take place at a school, which is were the main characters meet and how the drama begins. Higurashi is twice the length of School Days and ALOT more gorey, so if thats not your thing, then you probably shouldn't watch this. But if you like dark animes filled with drama, horror, and increasingly crazy people then you'll both of these.

PandaTeddy PandaTeddy says...

School Days created the beast within me, and Higurashi fed it. If you enjoyed the last episode of School Days, Higurashi will satisfy your thirst for violence.

If School Days is a "nice boat", Higurashi is a nice luxury cruise liner.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

From cute to brute, as I like to call these two anime. If you liked the sudden change from a cutesy harem to something entirely different, Higurashi might be just what you're looking for. It has a cast of cutely drawn characters doing their cute things, but makes sudden changes towards something more disturbing. Higurashi contains little romance (although it's not entirely non-existant), but if disturbing is what you're looking for after School Days, definitely check this one out!

Enjeru Enjeru says...

Both Higurashi and School Days start out pretty innocently, but gradually get darker as you keep watching.

ItsumoHitori ItsumoHitori says...

School Days and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni have characters put in situations where they are pushed to the limit of their sanity. If you enjoyed that aspect of one of these shows, you will most likely find the other a good watch.

NicoNicoDesu NicoNicoDesu says...

If you like "School Days," you will probably like "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" for a few reasons. One, "HnNKn" is a very good anime, so you can get over the train wreck that is "SD." Two, the (very) little gore in "SD" is intensified and prominent throughout all of "HnNKn." I cannot recommend this the other way around because I cannot bring myself to recommend "SD" to anyone, unless you absolutely love characters you want to burn alive. Also, "HnNKn" has none of the distracting and pointless ecchi of "SD."

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

"Wolves in sheep's clothing" is the best way to describe these two anime. Both start out like ordinary school-life animes, then slowly, the darkness creeps in. There's also a gaggle of girls that are interest in the male lead, which might not be a good thing for him.

Reasons you might like Myself; Yourself...

crash9661 crash9661 says...

Myself;Yourself and School Days both have "Nice Boat" endings, lies, deceit, incest, blood, and secrets. So much happens in these series that you are left wanting more. The overly happy mood in the early episodes of each series really does foreshadow the darker things to come. Will the anime end with your favorite lead character dead?

vick01 vick01 says...

Both of the series story lines revolve around the characters having serious problems and secrets. Both of the series have a more mature theme to them and contains blood in the series. However, both of the series are done in a way where you get attached to the characters and get you get sucked into the story lines. both of theses series will leave you wanting more when the conclude, you will enjoy one if you liked the other.

Sheex Sheex says...

Myself; Yourself de-emphasizes the romantic focus present in School Days, but still manages to touch upon similar themes. Each presents an apparantly innocent, sugar-coated view of youth, but follows shortly with a dark, sinister breakdown of these ideas as nothing more than fantasy. With both packed full of bleak, ominous drama, it'd you watch one be sure to check out the other.

caitlin caitlin says...

Both Myself; Yourself and School Days begin with a light hearted, pleasant feel, giving the impression that it is going to be a sweet, romantic view on the 'springtime of youth', but that image begins to deteriorate as both begin to focus more on the darker side of human interactions, and growing up. Both anime feature lies, secrets, and themes such as murder and suicide, making both a deceptive, dark watch, in the end. If you enjoyed one you will surely enjoy the other!

Animati0n Animati0n says...

The minor similarities are that both of these animes are about a guy who is trying to live his high school life to the brightest point.

But these are just the minor similarities, the real cake is the theme.

I won't reveal what's actually happening, but I can say that these animes have an extremely simular theme. Which is why it's so fascinating. The quick and similar change of atmosphere from the one really bright, enjoyable to a dark, depressing, confusing and emotional one is boneshaking.

Lies, secrets, mental craziness, belief and unclear feelings are only some that comes forth to the light.

But, even though the both of them are very dark, the emotions that are felt at those certain points are different. Sometimes it's a "oh, poor one" feeling and other times a "heh, serves you right" emotion. Or you could just be confused and don't understand a thing, that's completely up to you.

How the protagonist solves it and how the diffrent stories end though are completely diffrent things.

risuta risuta says...

Both School Days and Myself; Yourself, are anime about school life, relationships, tragedy and life in general. They both are a lot deeper then they seem, and go much further than the "everything blooms" stereotype that we often see in simillar anime. If you liked one of them, I defenitely suggest you watch the other one, too.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

I think that School Days and Myself; Yourself had similar animation styles with some of the characters being similar in personality, although School Days is a much darker anime than Myself; Yourself. They also share a sense of secretism throughout. It is very easy to get wrapped up in the main characters lives and the sense of reality in each series.

fizrox fizrox says...

High school drama can be more dramatic that it is supposed to and both of these series are prove of that. If you like emotional unstable people drawn into the worst of their nightmares, trying to make it using the most hopeless ways, this is what you have been looking for.

bobjoe bobjoe says...

Although the ways in which the characters deal with their situations is very different between these two anime, the themes are still very much the same. In each, the main character must deal with a love triangle situation, while much darker adult themes simmer in the background, eventually boiling over and being exposed.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

While the themes of Myself; Yourself and School Days aren't 1:1 copies of each other, both series take a shift from innocent to messed up at some point. School Days certainly has more shock value, and Myself; Yourself more touching drama, but both treat subjects that are often avoided by other shows. If you enjoyed the style of storytelling in one of these shows, give the other one a shot!

eaper eaper says...

Both of these series start off, more or less, as the average school love story, but do a decent job adding a sense of what would probably have to be called crazy into some of the main heroines. This sets them apart from most of the other series in this genre.

triplestrike triplestrike says...

School Days and Myself; Yourself have very different protagonists but the actions and deeper subject matter that gets revealed is prevelant in both.

tootalls tootalls says...

Myself; yourself is a fine breath of fresh air for anyone who recently suffered through school Days in it's entirety.

In my obining School Days is a great anime in it's own right but none the less for most people it's better left unwatched. So I do not recommend anyone who has just watched Myself Yourself to watch school Days.

You fall in love with the MY cast but you resent possibly every character in SD.

MY makes you laugh and cry and SD makes youshout prfanities at your screen never once finding amusment or loosing a tear.

What I'm trying to say Is despite comments saying these anime are similar, they are not.

So if you already seen school days, I feel your pain, now watchs Myself yourself to clear your brain.

If your looking for something similar to myself yourself I recommend Clannad and Kannon 2006

If you totally enjoyed the last episode of School Days, then Elfen Lied is definitely a title for you. The twisted graphics of gore are very similar, except there's more of it in Elfen Lied. School Days and Elfen Lied are very much alike in the terms of geting to know the charaters . In both series theay have realy manage to express what theay are feeling inside. Theay have realy manage to show the emotions, who I think is the best part of all anime. And it's the reason why I love anime so much.

Side of that if you'll find it intresting to see one of these: I strongly recomend to have something to wipe your tears whit. :P

risuta risuta says...

Well, at first, one would never expect that there would be a recomendation for someone who liked School Days to like Elfeni Lied as well, or the oposite, but here it is! School Days might seem like just an ordinary romance/school life anime but that is not all. School Days starts with romance, but as you watch mor epiosdes, you start questioning the characters, their morals and their sanity. Something Similar happens to Elfen Lied as well. Both anime show you how odd and indescribable human nature can be. One has to do with evolved humans with invisible hands, the other with mere high school students, but the point is, that they both leave you with a good lesson as far as life is concerned and a feeling of astonishment and awe.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Packed full of tragedy and emotional scenes, Elfen Lied and School Days are full of hard situations to deal with. They each have a twist on the plot line that will keep you guessing until the very end. It seems that is is hard for the characters to express themselves and both series show a different side to human nature.

fizrox fizrox says...

Romance + violence = really good anime. That is the simplest way to explain, why fans of one of these will enjoy another if the equation mentioned seems true to them. In addition, it has to be addmited that both of these anime have really good stories and very uniqe characters.

IDDKyewD IDDKyewD says...

Brutal and violent, Elfen Lied is a more in-your-face version of School Days. Boy loves girl, girl loves boy, other girl loves boy too, chaos ensues. Elfen Lied is more violent, but stories delve into the depths of what a person can do in the name of love.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

Elfen Lied and School Days felt incredibly similar to me. They were both like trainwrecks I just couldn't stop watching. And even when they were trying to be soft/sweet/tender/whatever, you just KNEW something was going to happen, that someone would screw everything up and it would all end terribly.

They're also both chock-full of un-intentional comedy, due to how over-the-top and ridiculous everything is. (If you can get past the idiocy and melodrama of it all)

The difference is that Bokura ga Ita goes more in depth with those problems and is more detailed with the characters.

Both Scum's Wish and School Days are relatively explicit ecchi that reflect the results on relationships of self-serving people pursuing their own desires at the expense of everyone around them.

The major difference is that School Days immature male protaganist is replaced in Scum's Wish with an equally selfish and immature female protaganist.  Both seek sexual encounters to slap bandaids on their inability to achieve fulfillment in emotionally healthy relationships.  Friends of eah protaganist largely contribute to their downward spirals, rather than encouraging healthier behaviors.

School Days at least ended with some kind of metaphorical justice for all the participants instead of trying to put a good spin on the cast of abusive or neglectful characters that participate in mutually self-destructive relationship practices.

Both shows feature a dysfunctional relationship (be it due to the nature of the relationship or because the moral compass of the characters is out of service) and focus on how everything goes downhill from there. If you liked one of them and romances featuring scummy people (pun not intended) are your thing then give the other a go!

Both anime feature characters who speak flippantly of love and relationships. They see the drama they cause as simply a means to an end. School Days is additionally a harem anime, while Kuzu no Honkai / Scum's Wish is very focused on making all of its characters hateable but in a relatable manner. Both main protagonists don't care about morality or doing the right thing beyond what aids them directly.

Both series has a love triangle and the protagonist is indecisive in picking his true love. Both Themes are similar however School Days has taken love into the next step of revenge and jealousy in a whole other level.

Ichigo 100% is the "happy" version of School Days. The male protagonist finds himself caught between many girls who have feelings for him and doesn't know which one he loves the most. If you want a happy version, Ichigo 100% is the better choice, but if you want a well-developed storyline with realistic situations and a spectacular ending, watch School Days. Better yet, watch them both and you will have seen everything harem-animes have to offer.

The protagonist in both these series is a pretty regular young boy, who is suddenly the centre of attention for several girls whom he have to choose from. The longer the shows goes on the more intricate it becomes. Ichigo 100% has a more lighter feel to it than School Days though.
