Mei Tachibana has had neither a friend nor a boyfriend in 16 years, and she doesn’t plan on ending that streak any time soon. The outcast learned years ago that social obligations only lead to pain, and has carefully guarded her heart to keep from getting hurt. However, the girl can’t stay withdrawn forever, especially after attracting the attention of the handsome Yamato, who finds her caustic personality interesting and strives to date her after she roundhouse kicks him down the stairs. But even the most earnest of romances can be crippled by jealousy and insecurity, and this pair has plenty of both. Can their feelings for each other overcome their own emotional weaknesses, or will this love perish before it even begins?
Both of these shows have you falling in love with the characters in the story, and wishing them only the best. The opening song in Suki-tte Ii na yo (Say "I love you") is so beautiful that it alone can bring tears to my eyes. I don't know a freakin' word of Japanese, but it just pierces me right to my soul. The similarities might not be obvious at first - SILY is from the girl's perspective, and Pet Girl mostly from the guy's... but if you want a cathartic release, and characters to really root for, then watch both series.
Rikka Takanashi is a teenage girl who possesses the strongest ocular power known to man: the Tyrant’s Eye. She's currently locked in a fierce war with a shadowy organization, and the fate of the world may hang in the balance with each passing battle... or at least this is what she believes. In actuality, Rikka is merely a normal high school girl afflicted with chuunibyou syndrome, a "disease" that makes one prone to delusional flights of fancy. Meanwhile former chuunibyou sufferer Yuuta Togashi is enrolled at the same school, looking to put his embarrassing junior high exploits behind him. However, when Rikka discovers his past life as the "Dark Flame Master", she uses this to her advantage to include him in all of her wacky schemes! With Rikka’s zany behavior dragging him further and further from normalcy, Yuuta must try to pull her back into the real world – or risk getting sucked into hers!
Two incredible comedic romances between a relatively normal MC and an incredibly weird heroine. Sakurasou's heoine is a talented savant while Chuunibyou's heroine has chuunibyou (8th grade syndrome). The MC characters are tasked with taking care of the heroine and this situation creates a touching yet hilarious romance series. Both Sakurasou and Chuunibyou are both amazing comedic romances that you need to see.
Keitaro Urashima is somewhat of a failure. In order to fulfill a promise he made to a girl fifteen years ago, he has tried time and again to get into Tokyo U but has never managed to pass the exam. However, fate smiles upon him and he ends up working for his aunt, managing an all-girls dorm! Living with the feral Kaolla, the timid Shinobu, the sake-loving Mitsune, the blade mistress Motoko and the punch-happy Naru, can Keitaro keep his focus and keep his promise? And will he ever end up meeting that girl from his past?
Both animes have characters who due to exigent circumstances must move into new places. The main charcters are both a bit down on there luck but the women they move in with save the day. At Yamaboshi High, joining a school club is required, so when Himeko, Iori, Taichi, Yoshifumi and Yui couldn't find a suitable choice, they decided to create their own: the School Culture Club! Together, they pass the days meeting and coming up with topics for the group's newspaper – that is, until one day, Yoshifumi and Yui proclaim that they switched bodies last night! Soon after, all five members of the gang find themselves inadvertently swapping at random, with no end in sight. What, or who, caused this supernatural phenomenon?
Although those 2 series seem quite different at a first glance, both contain an interesting blend of comedy drama and romance; Kokoro Connect being more dramatic whereas Sakurasou more humoristic.
Those shows explore the relationships between a group of students and in spite of an unrealistic setting (supernatural in Kokoro Connect or a bunch of weird people living together in Sakurasou) the way those characters interact with each other and their response to the occurring situations seem quite real.
Both anime have touching emotional moments, if you enjoyed one you may want to try the other.
Both are school romcoms with a whole lot of drama and character growth. While trying to find themselves, our main characters are also falling in love and trying to best deal with the problems that soon follow all good romances. From love triangles to personal crises, there's plenty of angst to go around in both of these series.
