Clannad After Story

Clannad After Story

Summer break is now over; the second semester has started for Tomoya, Nagisa and the others, and little has changed. Since Tomoya's relationship with his father is still troubled, he continues to live with Nagisa and her family, even if it means getting roped into organizing a baseball team for the family bakery. Life at school continues as normal with Sunohara as carefree as ever; however, when his sister Mei voices her concerns about him, the series of events that follow place a strain on Sunohara and Tomoya’s friendship. Whether it's saving a person from themselves or passing on a message from the past, one thing’s for sure: no matter how tough things get, good friends will always be there to help out.

Both of these shows center around a man who is in love with a girl who is slipping away from him. They both are very emotional and have similar twists at the end.

His dreams have become less dark, as though a ray of hope has appeared; but could there be more to these dreams than there appears to be?

If you liked Saikano, you'll like Clannad Movie as well and vice versa. The stories are both set around two characters in love with a tragic storyline. They are both heartwarming and heartbreaking. I literally cried during both...although Saiko is perhaps a bit more emotionally deep. While Saikano is a full on series, the Clannad Movie is a sort of recap of the Clannad series.

Claymore

Claymore

In times of olde, humans live in constant fear of demons known as yoma. These vicious creatures can take the appearance and memories of humans they have devoured, thus blending into society as they freely feast on human flesh. The key to stopping the yoma lies with the tolerated yet feared Claymores - women who are half-demon, half-human, and fully fated to become the demons that they hunt. Meanwhile, in a village, the young Raki has been banished; his only crime was losing his family to the yoma. Raki is drawn to a Claymore named Clare, and together their journey begins. While Clare fights the yoma plaguing the land, can Raki help her in her struggle to retain her humanity?

Weapons in the form of humans are both important aspects of these series and while the settings may be different, the idea of a weapon taking over is explored in both of these series and makes it worth to watch.

Full Moon wo Sagashite

Full Moon wo Sagashite

Twelve year old Mitsuki's desire is to become a singer. She has the talent and a beautiful voice, but she also has a throat tumor which threatens to rob her of her gift of song. As if things weren't bad enough, two shinigami inform Mitsuki that she only has one year left to live. However, all is not lost, for they make a deal that if she goes with them, they will help realize her dream by changing her into a healthy 16-year-old, who is able to sing and apply for auditions.

This recommendation is because both series are, at times, very sad love stories involving younger people who have various obstacles to deal with as they try to reach their goals. Full Moon is about a girl who wants to be a Jpop idol, even at the cost of her life. For the most part though, Full Moon is a much happier series than Saikano, which has a greater sense of urgency. Both series also have excellent music.

Haibane Renmei

Haibane Renmei

A young woman quietly falls to the earth, escorted by a solitary crow. This sort of dream, as many other before have dreamed, comes just before being reborn as a Haibane, a charcoal-winged angel. On the outskirts of the walled-in city lies Old Home, a haven for Haibane to study, live, and learn, while waiting for their chance to ascend to the heavens and escape the confines of their new world. Rakka is the newest inhabitant of Old Home who wants nothing more than to remember her past and discover the secrets of her kind. Together with Reki, Kuu and plenty of other new friends, Rakka will laugh, explore, and search for the meaning of their existence in the process.

They both have many differences ( Saikano being more of a romance ), but I think the feel of each is similar. Both are deeper type of anime's with a bit of sci-fi mixed in.
