It is the era of Bakumatsu – the last years of the shogunate. In the general turmoil caused by warring groups with different political interests, a curious theatrical group known as the Yuyama Troupe is set out for revenge. They come across a mysterious young swordsman, Akizuki Youjirou, who seems to be burdened with a dark past. Thrown around by currents of history, powerful people from different factions and personal relations, Akizuki tries to fulfill his mission to destroy an ancient, cursed relic, the Lord’s Head, which has caused chaos and bloodshed for thousands of years.
Both Kenshin and Bakumatsu involve a young samurai that is traveling in Japan because of his past. Both of the main characters carry special swords along with them that are very important to their fights. Along with the great action scenes in both there is a bit of romance and some comic relief, moreso in Rurouni Kenshin but still a little in Bakumatsu.
Hitomi was just a normal high school girl, until she was taken by the mysterious Van Fanel and dropped into a world of romance, magic and giant sword-wielding armor suits! Now Van, pilot of the famed armor suit Escaflowne; and Hitomi, whose hobby of predicting the future just became a frightening reality, must work together and fight the advanced technology of Zaibach: a force who want to shape Gaea to their visions of "peace". Follow Hitomi in her struggles against both these forces who seek to conquer this world, and her own confused heart.
A traditional romance narrates the extraordinary exploits of heroes, sometimes interwoven with love stories and religious allegories.
Rurouni Kenshin is the romantic tale of a Meiji-era swordsman. Its hero is a knight-errant, a bumbling wanderer haunted by his past. Vision of Escaflowne takes place in a remote, enchanted setting and deals with romantic notions like fate, fortune and impossible love amidst a background of war.
Both series defy the convention of "anime for boys" and "anime for girls" by combining elements that will please the romantics and the action junkies.
Gonzo does it again with this action-packed mecha comedy. She's an ordinary high school girl. He's a counterterror agent assigned to protect her from those who would steal the information locked in her mind. OK, so she's not so normal after all. Armored Slave battles and lovers' spats abound as Sousuke and his comrades try to track down the mysterious Gauln before it's too late.
If you like Kenshin chances are you might like Full Metal Panic as well. They both are serious and funny at the same time with a touch of romance thrown in. Both have awesome fights scenes as well.
