Though Rec pans out to be the better of the two in terms of realistic romance, Kimikiss certainly holds its own weight in comparison. Both titles flaunt some of the best romantic progression in the genre, and given the sheer number of crap titles out there, this is nothing to scoff at. If you're a fan of good romance, neither title is one to be passed up.

Koi Kaze and REC are hyper-realistic romance series (starring at least one adult) that offer a welcome respite from the oodles of angsty/vapid romances set in high schools. The male lead from each is especially similar.
Kenji Tomosaka is a young boy who moved from the city to a coastal town at a young age. The ocean fascinated him, and that is where he met a girl named Nanami Konoe. Similar to REC, Lamune has a very casual slice-of-life feel to it. Though it tends to drag out its content a bit more due, obviously, to the huge disparity in series length, it still possess much the same style. Though there are a number of girls, the main romance is already set in stone, so expect romantical progression similar to that in REC.
