Living together doesn't assure the success of a relationship. It may be, actually, just a new beginning where you still have lots to learn; and it may (and probably will) bring the relationship various problems. In both Onegai Teacher and REC this aspect is present, Onegai just explores it a bit more; also, while the characters of both series live together and love each other, they still need some time to actually understand and get used to their feelings (being afraid is just part of the process) and become a "real" couple.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Please Teacher takes on a supernatural, unrealistic approach whereas Rec could potentially happen to someone however the main characters in each have to find a new beginning and keep their relationship a secret. They are also each filled with awkward moments and sexual tension between the two main characters

joykimlee joykimlee says...

Joy of living together for the first time brings happiness and frustrations that can lead to better understanding of one's feelings for the other.  Rec is sweet for its realistic slow to admit love story, whilst Please Teacher is sensational for its ecchi yet emotionally engaging love story.  Both have stronger career female vs weaker male striving to establish himself.  Both have good romance that brought light laughs and a tear or two in several eps, with satisfying endings.  Must watch for real romance fans!

cotsiost cotsiost says...

botha animes involve two people getting to live together under strange circumstances and there is romance developed between them

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Well there are parts that are similar and parts that are different between the two.  In Please Teacher it's about a teacher who just happens to be an alien living together with her student who has found out her secert.  Then in Rec it's about a salaryman living together with a rookie voice actress.  While portions of the overall story are fairly different they both deal with the same thing which is two people living together and the relationship that grows as time progresses as well as the characters coming to understand their feelings.

I''s Pure

I''s Pure

It's Christmas Eve and Ichitaka, with his friend Yasuo, await a double date. While waiting for Iori and Nami, Ichitaka reminisces about his experience with his life-long crush Iori. There were many opportunities to finally confess his love to Iori, especially the time when the two were selected to arrange the freshman entrance ceremony; but Ichitaka was either too shy or often misunderstood. The biggest misunderstanding of all was when Ichitaka's childhood friend, Itsuki came to live in Ichitaka's home all the way from the United States...

I''s Pure, like Rec, is another short romance where love and success play a delicate balance in the lives of the main characters.

JAhU JAhU says...

The characters in both Rec and I''s Pure have to deal with the problem of choosing between love and a career, but the relationship between the main characters is slow to evolve in both shows. Seto may be much more hopeless than Matsumaru, but you should give I''S Pure a try anyway.

Both of those Anime are great quick watch romantic comedy with dosage of misunderstanding and embarasment. I'm sure that if you liked one you will love another too... This is quite good pause beetwen havy Anime of diffrent kind...

Grach Grach says...

In both of these shorts, the characters debate themselves between two major ideas: Love or Carrer. They both contain those awkward moments between the two interested in one another, and the results that they can have on the relationship. Both are also slow paced, even though their lengths are short. If you liked one, then the other is something to look at.

Candy Boy

Ever since they were little, the pair has been exceptionally close – perhaps even a bit too close for siblings when eyes are turned away. But soon a girl named Sakuya, who often tails the two, begins to grow closer to Yukino; and after an alleged confession that she hears about, Kanade begins to get worried that something is going on behind her back. Can the three of the girls keep their relationships with each other on stable ground, or will jealousy and heartache come crashing down on them?

If you like your romances short and sweet (and I do mean short, both series clock in well under the standard length), check out REC or Candy Boy. Aside from the length similarity, both are understated, and neither is about a typical anime couple (REC is about working adults, and Candy Boy is about yuri incest- surprisingly, with not a hint of ecchi in sight).

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Both Candy Boy and Rec are short, sweet romantic comedies with... *Drumroll* comedy instead of ecchi, and romance instead of shyness. These two titles are a little different from your everyday romcom, and if you're looking for a short breath of fresh air, these two both fit the bill perfectly.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Candy Boy and Rec are short sweet romances.  Each having a similar type of feeling and outlook of the characters.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Both are short and sweet romances with a touch of comedy added in.  While Rec deals more with a standard romance between adults and Candy Boy is more of a yuri-incest type of thing going on but nevertheless both are a good romance animes to waste a couple of hours on.

JAhU JAhU says...

Both Rec and Welcome to the NHK are interesting and are aimed at adults. I can't name any other similarities, but it doesn't mean that there aren't any. Keep in mind that Rec lacks Welcome to The NHK!-like drama, though it has a lot of romantic comedy elements, which NHK only has from time to time. Still, you should give this title a try.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Welcome to the NHK goes a lot deeper as the story goes on, but just like Rec there are a lot of romantic comedy aspects which provide some good laughs, but keep the anime fairly serious. Both are great anime is you want to take a break from all the plot-filled anime, but still want something serious to watch.

worosei worosei says...

For some reason, both have a similar 'feel'. They're quite different animes, of different themes, and purpose. However both deals with how people cope with life in general; NHK - Satou being a hikikomori, Hitomi as a civil servant , REC - Aka as a new seiyu and Matsumaru as a fledging salaryman.

Both are romances, REC more openly, and the characters are similar.

Aka and Misaki are both oddball kind of forward girls younger than the male lead.

Matsumaru and Satou gain inferiority complexes, and both acts relatively cold and harsh at times.

Mainly a recommendation based on the lead's relationships.

4EverDreamer 4EverDreamer says...

Both are comedic romances. Although B Gata is heavier on the sexual content, each relationship deals with what what makes a real relationship beyond physical contact.

Jedo Jedo says...

I recommend fans of simple, straight-up romance to watch both B Gata H Kei and REC. Both shows feature very 'normal' male lead roles and yet they each encounter a beautiful girl to complement their respective personalities. In REC, the very apathetic male finds refuge in Aka Onda's shining personality. His days of monotony were numbered upon the fateful encounter. In B Gata H Kei, we are given a healthy but shy high school boy who becomes the target of Yamada's affection. Her single-minded and oversexed brain results in a very unique style of Romance and Comedy. Both shows definitely prove that opposites CAN attract!

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

While B Gata H Kei tends to be a lot more heavy in the sexual content category with really nothing along those lines really showing up in Rec.  Also Rec tends to be a bit more on the mature side in terms of story with the characters being something more believable than some of the characters in B Gata H Kei. Both series are still both fairly good romcoms and if you liked one then you may want to check out the other.
