Synopsis:

Sumiregawa Nenene is an author who hasn't published a book in years. However, at a book signing in Hong Kong, things go fascinatingly awry. For starters, her guides are three sisters who operate a detective agency: Maggie, Michelle, and Anita. Then there's the attacks on Nenene's life, and her only line of defense is the three sisters -- who can all use paper as weapons, tools, and even transportation. But can their powers protect Nenene from the mysterious forces that not only want her, but all the precious books of the world...?

Darker Than Black - Kuro no Keiyakusha

Darker Than Black - Kuro no Keiyakusha

A giant wall looms over Tokyo, shielding the city from a dangerous otherworld called the 'Hell's Gate'. Within the city, things are no less terrifying because Contractors, psychopathic killers with phenomenal powers, have started to appear. These killers are compelled to pay a price every time they use their powers, often in the form of a meaningless or painful task. As their deadly habits rack up a gruesome death toll, Kirihara Misaki and her team from the Foreign Affairs Public Security struggle to solve the cases and bring the Contractors under control. Their task is further confounded by the interference of a masked individual they title Messier Code BK201, a man with abilities that allow him to fight and defeat the Contractors. Who is this BK201? How can the Contractors be stopped permanently? And what does the appearance of the Hell's Gate mean for the people of Tokyo?

Both Darker than Black and Read or Die - TV deal with individuals with 'superpowers' going against large organizations that once worked for.

Umineko

Darker than Black and Read or Die both have major characters with 'personal superpowers'. The action sequences all have the same feel for it and for viewing pleasure I'd recommend Darker than Black. It does however feature less of the 'emotional bonds' between characters (only a little) and the stories are very different.

Still highly recommended

Minami-ke

Minami-ke

Meet the Minami sisters, three girls living on their own and doing their best to make it through life's little snags and adventures. Kana, the middle sister, has far more energy than common sense; Chiaki, the youngest, is more reserved, but her sharp tongue and devious mind often cause trouble for others; and Haruka, the eldest, acts like a mother to the other two, is beautiful and kind, but has a fearsome stern streak. Together, no obstacle can stand in their way, be it school, romance, or even cooking.

Although Read or Die has a more unrealistic plot with detectives being able to magically manipulate paper the characters are similar to the ones in Minami-ke in which, just as in Read or Die, three sisters are trying to make a living and survive the circumstances that life presented to them.

MomokoChan

The three distinct personalities of the three sisters in Read or Die TV really remind me of the three Minami sisters in Minami-ke.

Although they are different genres, ROD-tv has got some great slice-of-life, moments despite being action, and both appeal to the same sense of humour.

Ah! My Goddess

Ah! My Goddess

Keiichi Morisato is just your average college student until one day, fate interjects as he makes a call for take-out food. Unknown to him, he reaches the Goddess Help Line, and contacts a goddess named Belldandy, who grants him a wish. Thinking it to be a joke, Keiichi wishes for her to be his girlfriend 'forever'.

There's no direct link - but both are "Feel Good" shows. I do feel like if you like one show, you'll like the other.

Burst Angel

Burst Angel

In the future, Tokyo has fallen victim to syndicates, trigger-happy people who run rampant and other groups who don't like to follow the rules. In response, an organization called RAPT has been created, whose goal is to maintain their definition of "peace". In the underground, however, science involving humans and powerful mechanics is progressing at a steady phase, but for what purpose? Meet our four angels who know how to kick butt and raise hell whenever it's needed. Their motto? Shoot first, talk later. Their mission? To make the seemingly impossible possible, of course...

What i found very enjoyable in Bakuretsu Tenshi and in Read Or Die was the teamwork they did at times. Though they are both up for hire, the story isn't all that alike. But if you liked the way they stick together and pull off some teamwork that's enjoyable to watch, both R.O.D. and Bakuretsi Tenshi are yours to watch.

Cardcaptor Sakura

Cardcaptor Sakura

Sakura Kinomoto never imagined that by opening a book in her father's library, she'd be responsible for releasing wild magic into the world, yet that's exactly what she did. Too powerful to be let loose on the world, the magical Clow cards were sealed away long ago by their creator, Clow Reed. But all is not lost, for the guardian beast, Keroberos, was sealed along with the cards! Can Sakura, with the help of Keroberos, retrieve the cards before they wreak havoc on the town?

While R.O.D. is aimed at a much more mature public, both series work on the same conept. While in R.O.D. it's about books, in Card Captor Sakura it's about cards. The humor in Card Captor Sakura is of a low maturity level, while the few jokes in R.O.D. are aimed at a much more mature public. In addition to that: R.O.D. contains some nudity. R.O.D. does not have the Magic Girl, while in Card Captor Sakura there is one. SO if you likea more mature version of Card Captor Sakure, withough the Magic Girl, you'll probably like R.O.D. If you like the more kiddy anime and love Magical Girls, check out Card Captor Sakura
