While visiting his hometown, junior high school student Michishio Nagasumi's life was changed forever when he nearly drowned. Though he was saved by a mermaid named San, there’s a catch -- her family is part of a merfolk mafia, and they abide by a strict rule: If a mermaid is discovered by a man, either he or the mermaid must die. That is, unless the man marries into the family! Faced with such a decision, Nagasumi can only oblige their customs and become a "happy" newlywed. Now, with a new school year around the corner, Nagasumi must find a way to deal with his new bride, keep her true nature a secret, and most importantly, escape inevitable death at the hands of San's over-protective father’s gang!
In both Ranma and Seto the male lead and the female lead are forced to get engaged and live together in the same house. Many more characters get introduced gradually and cause trouble for the two leads. They are both great anime for anyone who enjoys comedy.
The newest heir to Ranma 1/2's throne in the world of wacky romance/harem anime, Seto no Hanayome keeps up the premise of a forced engagement, and the melange of outrageous people who are opposed to it. Only, instead of perpetually lost, spatula-wielding, and Amazonness martial artists, think Terminator-like, agoraphobic, and maniac idol mermaids!

For Akane Suzumiya, letting go of her memories and moving forward has been difficult. Luckily (more like unluckily) for her, the loud and confident baseball powerhouse Gouda "Ace" Jouji has just transferred to school, and what's better (worse?!), he's just proposed to her in the middle of class after their first meeting! Can Akane outmaneuver and escape the persistent Gouda, or is she doomed to a pairing she cannot refuse?
Stuck in a relationship where there is no hope for escape? That's the situation Suzimiya Akane is in when an overconfident Gouda transfers into her class; this is also the situation Ranma and Akane Tendo find themselves in too! Both of these are entertaining anime series, with oodles of comedic relief to calm the tensions between the pairs.
