When the loveable Perro was banished from the kingdom of cats (for the treacherous crime of saving a mouse!), his wanderings led him to the house of Pierre, a young lad who was mistreated by his greedy brothers. Thrown out in the cold, the duo then traveled to a great kingdom where they laid eyes on the princess Rosa, who soon would be wed to a wealthy suitor. Who best to marry her but ... the son of a poor farmer?! With Perro's help, Pierre might just stand a chance -- that is, if he can fool the royal family and defeat the evil Lucifer, who wants Rosa all for himself!
One afternoon on her way home from school, Haru saves a cat from getting run over by a truck and promptly gets the shock of her life when it stands on its hind legs to thank her. That night, she is greeted by a parade of felines who inform Haru that her earlier heroics saved the prince of the Cat Kingdom. Haru suddenly finds herself inundated with gifts of mice and catnip as means of thanks, culminating in the announcement that she will be taken to their kingdom to marry the prince. With no desire to marry Prince Lune, Haru turns to The Baron and Muta from the Cat Bureau for help, but unable to stop them, Haru is swept away by a horde of cats. Can Haru prevent this marriage of inconvenience and return home before she becomes a cat herself?
The Cat Returns is definitely a lot more new and interesting than Puss in Boots, and if you enjoyed the fantasy aspect of Puss in Boots (or the cats, for that matter?) why not check out this Ghibli tale that involves cats as well? I think you'll enjoy the mystical elements of it as well as the humor and animation, especially if you enjoyed Puss in Boots.
The cat's kingdom - I wonder what it is like? Both main cats in these two anime were banished from the cat's kingdom. They search for a way to live life anew - Perro from "Puss in Boots" is doing a heroic thing and helping Pierre, while Baron from "Neko no Ongaeshi" has his secret plans about fixing the rotten cat's kingdom's system.
Hiromi Nozawa is a young sixth-grader with a fairly normal life -- and a talking pet dog named Junkers. With her mother at work all hours of the day, and her father constantly overseas, tension in the household is building up quickly, making Hiromi concerned that her parents might not stay together much longer. Luckily, Junkers has the ability to grant three miracles... but are miracles strong enough to save Hiromi's family?
Although the style of these two movies is really different, if you think about the plot you can find some similarities. If you consider that Perro is just a cat then he is just like Junkers - he has wants to help a person reach his dreams he never thought can be done. Perro and Junkers can talk, they are smart and they even can do miracles both in their own way; Junkers is helping a girl to bring her family back together, yet Perro is helping Pierre to start a new life. Both anime are filled with funny events and the endings are really thoughtful.
Grunwald, an evil demon, is threatening the fantasy world of old, and only young Horus has the power to destroy him. Armed with the legendary Sword of the Sun (that he plucked from the shoulder of a rock monster, no less), Horus must make new friends (including the beautiful siren Hilda and a whole town full of villagers) and overcome treachery and hardships to defeat the evil Grunwald and restore peace to mankind!
If you are looking for another anime to show your kids that is full of songs and fantasy, try this out. Both Horus and Puss in Boots are tales of fantasy and mystical things, of evil and those who would destroy them. A very similar feel and mood accompany both, as well. If you or your child liked one, I think you'd like the other.
