Ouran High is a school for the extremely wealthy or, in Haruhi's case, the extremely talented. But no amount of talent will help when Haruhi accidentally drops an eight million yen vase in a music room. The vase was the property of Ouran High School Host Club, a group of attractive young men who, for a fee, provide their time and affections for their lovesick clientele: the female students. Fascinated by this strange new specimen, a poor and clumsy commoner, they force Haruhi to work for them until the debt is repaid; but they get a lot more than they bargained for...
There's one main factor to this recommendation: Bishounen. Both of these shows are reverse harems with a wide variety of characters. Pretear is a pretty typical Magical Girl show, while Ouran is a comedy that drifts into parody of the genres it's a part of sometimes, but both shows still have a lot of comedy, character drama...and an otaku played by Monica Rial seeing everything that's happening through a fiction-tinted lense. Both are definitely worth a look if you're wanting more harem hijinx.
Eighteen years ago, the Platinum Tiara, which gives its wearer magical powers, was reassembled. At the same time, five "Princesses" were born, to the worlds of Earth, Heaven, Celestrial, Fairy, and Hell. These five princesses quit maturing at the age of 10, and are all competing to become THE Platinum Princess so they can grow up. This story is centered on Yuuchi, from the kingdom of Earth.
When Utena Tenjou was very little her parents died, and a prince comforted her in her time of loss, giving her a ring with a rose seal. He so impressed her that she decided to become a prince herself one day. Now, Utena is a teenager at Ohtori Academy who's athletic and notorious for dressing in a boy's uniform. When a member of the Student Council humiliates a friend of hers Utena challenges him to a duel, and he accepts only when he sees she possesses a rose seal ring. She soon discovers that this is no normal duel - it's a bizarre and ritualistic battle that the Student Council regularly conducts. In fact when she wins, Utena finds to her considerable chagrin that she gets to have Anthy Himemiya, a rather docile student, as her 'Rose Bride'. If she wants to keep Anthy she'll have to win more duels against members of the Student Council and others. What is the ultimate purpose of these duels and Anthy's role as the Rose Bride?
Souma and his friends were typical high school students, and members of the student council; but things changed when a cat girl named Mao appeared in the school, looking for someone named Zero. Souma accidentally breaks Mao's mirror which causes her, Souma and his friends to be transported to her world. In this world, Souma and the other male humans from Earth can wield soulblades drawn from people's hearts. His friends landed in different parts of a war-torn world, so they have subsequently broken up into separate factions and each person is working towards winning the war. His friends have become each other's enemies, and it's up to Souma to be the one to create peace without choosing which friends should die.
If you like Pretear than you should watch Shining Tears X Wind too! Their theme are pretty much the same! The theme is someone lending their power to fight the evil and saving the magical world. The only thing that is pretty much different is the gender and of course the storyline!
It is the year 2356 AD, 189 years after a shockwave from a distant supernova decimated the Earth. Since that fateful day, humanity has begun training for a final mission to protect the planet from the inevitable oncoming 2nd shockwave - a mission whose failure means the annihilation of mankind. For Katase and her friends, their training at the foundation Stellvia is just the beginning of an adventure that could lead to saving the world, or seeing its end...
Stellvia of the Universe and Pretear show how much you can get done when you have a good group of friends. The characters rely very much on their small knit kinships to work through the problems and achieve their goals. If you liked Stellvia you'll definitely like what Pretear has to offer (and vice versa).
