Imagine a mansion with a Christmas goods shop that appears out of nowhere, housing three beautiful sisters and a robot maid, all with very different personalities and figures. These sisters are looking for information that they can only acquire from "popotan," their term for dandelion flowers. After acquiring a hint of this information, the mansion and the girls vanish. Their travels take them through many places, and they meet a varied cast of characters during their quest, but what exactly is this information they're searching for so desperately?

Huh? Well, yes - both series focus on the interpersonal relationships of the three sisters. Whereas Kokoru Library is pure cute (diabetics take note - keep some insulin handy!) and there's quite a bit of drama in Popotan, both end up being a "coming of age" series.

Note that there is both an OVA and an TV series for Magic Users Club. This recommendation is more for the TV series. MUC and Popotan have in common the feeling that they leave you with, which is sort of "huh, that was surreal". Both series feature ordinary people in an ordianry world with not so ordinary events guiding there lives. Both series even feature an enigmatic albino who seems to be pulling to strings for an unknown perpose. Additionally, both series seem to be both simultaniously targeting kids and adults as their audience. Both feature magic, ecchi, comedy with comedy giving way to drama in the later series.

Mahoromatic

Mahoromatic

She cooks, she cleans, and is a lethal fighting machine. Mahoromatic, former Vesper battle android, has chosen to give up her weapons, extending her remaining life from 37 to 398 days. As Misato Suguru's maid, she fights battles of another sort, fending off an amorous teacher on one hand, ecchi magazines on the other. Can Mahoro save Suguru's innocence?

Both have underlying stories of pain and loss, and how these feelings are dealt with. And all the female characters are totally cute. Both feature a peacekeeper character that kicks much ass. And they're both really ecchi. ^_^

While popotan is more focussed on older public, I still got the feeling that both series have the same sort of animation and both feature characters with "super" powers.

Rizelmine

Rizelmine
  • TV (24 eps x 14 min)
  • 2002

In the present, the Japanese government has been conducting experiments to genetically engineer a human: a girl named Rizel. The experiment was a success -- sort of. While healthy and cheerful, 12-year-old Rizel also ended up possessing the uncanny need for “love” to further her development, as well as tears which were in fact volitile explosives! When sadness can end up destroying a city block, what's a girl to do except... get married?! For Iwari Tomori, the young man chosen as the most appropriate partner for Rizel, life is about to change, for better or for worse!

Both series are filled with fan service and have a comedic air to them, and they both in some way play to the lolicon audience (more so in Rizelmine than in Popotan). Also, both have a somewhat touching storyline that is fairly enjoyable. I'm sure that if you liked watching one, you'll like watching the other.
