Someday's Dreamers and Piano both have a very similar, beautiful animation style.. but more importantly, both are charming, quiet, slow tales of the everyday life of a girl who is trying to succeed, even when it seems impossible. If you've seen one, I really don't think it's possible that you'd dislike the other.

Princess Tutu

Princess Tutu main image

Once there lived an eccentric author called Drosselmeyer who wrote grand tragedies - one of them was the tale of a prince who sealed away an evil raven by breaking his own heart into tiny pieces. However, before the story could be completed, the author died and the tale took on a life of its own. Now, in a town where fiction and reality meet, the story continues on its tragic course with Ahiru, a duck who transforms into the beautiful Princess Tutu in order to restore the prince's heart. But will Ahiru's act of love be enough to defy the story's terrible destiny and lead to a happy ending?

Two cute and sugarsweet raomance/drama stories involving music. While Piano focusses mainly one Piano-music (Hey.... what a coincidence), Princess Tutu focusses mainly on dance. Princess Tutu is more humerous though, has super powers and plays in a whole different world. SO if you want to look for a series like Piano, but a bit omre extreme, check out this one.

An ode to the simplicity of life is what these two slice-of-life anime are. Both start from the same idea : an enjoyable, slow-paced view on how beautiful life can be in the simplests things, how we struggle over small everyday problems, how to relate to others, our doubts and fears, hopes and expectations, don't expect a complete story, you just step into their life, go along with it for a while and then leave them again. The difference between these two anime is the perspective and setting from which it is brought. In Piano, all these things are centered around the main character (a first person perspective) and daily house life, while in To Heart we are looking at it from the 3rd person perspective as it is the girls Hiroyuki meets that offer the insights in the human psyche and the setting is school life.

If you enjoyed the light sweetness in Piano, then you'll certainly enjoy Kokoro Library. The events that occur in both anime are never heavy. Theme words that come to mind are: soothing, tranquil, and soft - these seem to be the "feelings" I get from watching either Piano or Kokoro Library. Kokoro Library has more comedic/chibi moments, and more engaging episode events.
