Finding a genuine romance anime that deals with non high school students and serious topics is extremely rare in any era. Paradise Kiss and Nineteen 19, besides being poignant, clever and awesome, focus on adult topics with real life adults. Interesting music and animation tops both series, as well. If you liked one, definitely try out the other.

Both anime are more mature than most romance anime and while they both have a happy core, they dish out some great and emotional drama.

Ok, really weird recommendation I know, but both of these feature a strong female lead who is trying to reach her dream, despite having to take a different and difficult path.  They also both have male leads who inspire the heroine to challenge herself and to keep going.
