Both shows have a young woman who changes ambitions in life. Sex and romance are both a large part of the story, as well self realization.

Both of these animes are pretty dark but are unexpectantly funny at times. There is a great amount of character development in both of them, although I would say that Paradise Kiss had more character development in its cast as a whole since it is a character-driven show while Death Note is more plot-driven. The protagonists in each of these animes go through a complete evolution and their personalities and views of the world change completely. If you like one, you will like the other.

ef - a tale of memories

ef - a tale of memories

In a high school setting, there are many people whose stories must be told: Hiro, an aspiring manga artist whose view of the world is "missing a certain color," according to himself; his childhood friend Kei, who is vying for his attention; Kyosuke, a photographer and cameraman who seeks to capture true emotion in his work; the ever-cheerful Miyako, who meets Hiro by chance and immediately becomes attached to him; the gentle Renji, unsure of his aspirations to become a novelist; and Kei's mysterious and quiet sister Chihiro, who seems to be a different person every day. As time passes and they interact with one another more, their paths increasingly intertwine as shades of regrettable pasts emerge.

In Paradise Kiss and Ef ~ A Tale of Memories the main characters have a way of doing what they want to do with their life and trying to fulfill what is best for them. In Ef it is about a manga artist, whereas in Paradise Kiss it is about a model

Both series are products of Ai Yazawa. There are same characters e.g. Mikako Kouda, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, young Miwako, Arashi and Hiroyuki. Both are about fashion and Yagazaku school. Paradise Kiss and Gokinjo Monogatari are romance and comedy. Both anime are about love and friendship.
