Gene Starwind and Jim Hawkins make a living on various jobs and bounties. While waiting for their ticket to hit it big time, a mysterious woman named Hilda leaves them with a key to the puzzle of finding a starship of great power, known only as the Outlaw Star. What are these long lost spaceships and what is the Galactic Leyline?
Long ago the infamous Gol D. Roger was the strongest and most powerful pirate on the seas. As he was about to be executed he revealed that he hid all of his wealth, including the legendary treasure known as One Piece, on an island at the end of the Grand Line - a treacherous and truly unpredictable sea. Monkey D. Luffy is a spirited, energetic and somewhat dim-witted young man with a very big dream: to find One Piece and become the Pirate King! However Luffy is no ordinary boy, as when he was younger he ate one of the Devil's Fruits and gained its power to become a Rubber Man. Now in this grand age of pirates Luffy sets out to gather a crew and sail to the most dangerous sea in the world so that he can fulfill his dream... and maybe even his appetite!
Both series have an excellent atmosphere of freedom from oppression, being chased by law enforcers, criminals or glorious escapes from jail.
They travel over the world with their best friends searching for treasures and adventures having a lot of fun.
For the past five years Orphen has been on a journey to find the Sword of Baltanders and Bloody August, a feared dragon who was once a human sorceress named Azelie. With his partner Cleao and apprentice Majic, he now travels the perils of the land in search of a way to free Azelie from her evil imprisonment. With only a small trail of clues to follow, Orphen must unlock the secrets to the Sword of Baltanders or everyone he cares about will be doomed to face the wrath of the Tower of Fang Elders, or even Bloody August herself!
Though contrast arises from the difference in setting (low technology fantasy setting in the case of Orphen and high science fiction space exploration atmosphere in the case of Outlaw Star), the feel of both animes is, in many ways, quite similar. Both focus on an assertive protagonist who chooses to cut himself off from the standard roles of his world, but learns to rely on others in order to accomplish his goals. The result is two stories that end up converging in a similar fashion. If you like one and don't mind a different genre, you should look into watching the other.
Samurai Champloo is all about style, from the dj-style scratching scene changes to the hip-hop-inspired soundtrack to the eclectic character design. Mugen's fighting style is a funky meld of capoeira and limb-cutting, and Jin is the dramatic foil; he is all steel and old-school samurai style. What binds them together is the desire to test each other's abilities, and a promise to a girl named Fuu: to find the samurai that smells of sunflowers, who plays a pivotal role in her past. Together they travel through edo-era Japan, finding battle and comedy wherever they stop.
Both series have stories vowen around a team of "space freelancers". While Outlaw Star is biased more towards ship-to-ship space combat and is somehow more lighthearted, Champloo is all about the mood and can be pretty serious sometimes.
Meet Lina Inverse, a mighty sorceress who fights evil in the name of... greed, gluttony and black magic?! When she meets Gourry, a swordsman whose skill with the blade is rivaled only by his stupidity, Zelgadis, a grumpy sorceror who's been turned into a golem, and Rezo, a priest known for his benevolence (with a dark secret), you know her adventures are just beginning!
Slayers and Outlaw Star are about a band of misfits coming together and going on one huge life changing journey with some fantasy thrown in.
Life is never dull for the crew of the Sol Bianca, a group of female pirates who plunder the stars for treasure and fame. On a routine ship raiding, the women run across a boy named Rim, who possesses the knowledge of a great treasure located in his homeworld. Unable to resist, the crew is about to become involved in a dangerous adventure that may cost them their lives!
Both These anime's have a group of people on a ship where the main purpose becomes to find this one thing. So the journey begins and through it numerous trials occur. So if you enjoy this type of thing, then I'm sure you'd enjoy this anime as well.
