Although Outlaw Star has much more comedy, both of the stories are based around battle scenes and some sort of mechas and a subtle love story in the background.

Both series strongest point is the fighting involved in each series.  While Gundam Wing is more mecha and Outlaw Star is more spaceship/gunfights the highlight of each series is the fighting that goes on in the series.  Both also feature slight romances between the lead male and lead female and while it either ever says start out that this character likes that character it leaves little doubt in the viewers mind.  Also both are made by Sunrise so there's that.

Outlaw Star and Sol Bianca have something in common: trying to save the universe and earn a little pocket money. Does traveling around in a one-of-a-kind ship sound familiar? I'm sure you'd really like this if you liked Outlaw Star.

Some of the big fights in FFU reminded me of Outlaw Star--all the amazing attacks that Gene can do with his gun, for instance. Additionally, if you liked FFU's knack for constantly introducing strange and alien settings, Outlaw Star will deliver the same, though admittedly with more of a sci-fi, than fantasyish, touch.

Both series are about a couple of free spirits looking for, and finding, some excitement. Also, Even though both Gene and Adol are aces with their weapons (guns and swords respectively), they both tend to find clever and resourceful ways to win out against stronger opponnets.
