Asunaro is a new student at a school with three baseball teams; the first is renowned as being one of the best in the prefecture, but the third, Asunaro’s team, is filled with the rejects and unskilled of the baseball world. As the baseball instructor deems them to be nothing but trash, he informs the team that they will be disbanded in one month – that is, until one of the players begs him to let them play a single game. They’ll be up against the first team, and if they win, they’ll get to take over the title and even work their way towards playing at Koshien Stadium. Ookiku and Meimon are about two underdog sports teams that must prove themselves to be the best. Ookiku has much more up to date animation but both do have similar hideous character designs.

Okay this is a pretty bizarre recommendation but just read this… if you like the combination of an innocent, lovely yet naïve character who befriends with an strong, and dominant character these are for you..! in nana two unknown woman became best friends as well in Big Windup two unknown teenagers became best friends.

One Outs

One Outs

Kojima is a baseball legend. As the superstar cleanup hitter for the Lycaons, he won himself many awards including rookie of the year seven times; but there's one title he never acquired: champion. In an attempt to find that special something Kojima feels he's missing inside, he opens a training camp in Okinawa. There, through a series of events, Kojima is introduced to a high stakes game dominated by the talented Toua Tokuchi, and subsequently loses a fortune. However, Kojima finally defeats Toua and due to their agreement, he enlists him to join the now poorly-ranked Lycaons - but Toua demands a high price: instead of a salary, he will receive five million yen for each out, and lose fifty million yen for each point lost. With a bad attitude and prodigal skills, Toua will help transform the Lycaons into winners once more.

Both series are about baseball. Sometimes it’s very funny, sometimes you have to work hard to reach your goal. The action is slow, so you can watch one match during 10 episodes. But it’s always very interesting. And it’s not just the game. It feels like you also take part in the match.

Play Ball

Play Ball

Now that Takao is in high school, he finds himself wistfully staring at the baseball field each day, unable to get back in the game he loves. However, after joining the soccer team and excelling at the sport, the team's captain, Aiki, urges Takao to return to baseball once more. With fierce opponents at every turn and newfound friends at his side, Takao will help transform his team from average to amazing!

It's true that both Ookiku and Play Ball are about baseball; but beyond that similarity, there is one important thing the two have in common: the absolutely godawful character designs. In Ookiku, it's the triangle bird-like mouth face; in Play Ball, it's the mushy melted candle face with stunted bodies that look flat out strange. Neither is pretty to look at, but both are about baseball... so try this rec out?

Prince of Tennis

Prince of Tennis

Both series are about sports. Set a goal and reach it! It’s about hard work as a team, lots of training and also lots of interesting moments. Both anime have many awesome characters and you will find someone you like of course.
