Both Ghibli titles were cut from the same cloth - a fairly slow-paced slice of life, coming of age tale about an unlikely relationship and the drama that ensues.

Master Keaton

Master Keaton

Taichi Keaton, a former British special forces operative, now works as an insurance investigator for the world-renowned insurance agency Lloyd's; but his true passion is history and archaeology, which he fulfills by teaching at universities and visiting various ruins. Make no mistake though, there is far more to Mr. Keaton's job than simply filing insurance forms and writing reports! His investigations take him around the world and into situations ranging from run-ins with the Russian mafia to solving murders and even foiling terrorist plots. There's never a dull moment, much to Keaton's dismay!

Ocean Waves and Master Keaton are the two slowest paced shows I've watched thus far. While this might not seem like the most sound ground for their recommendation, I do feel that they would appeal to the same audience.

Several years ago, Noriko married and moved to the United States from Japan along with her husband, giving birth to a child soon after. Now, she has returned to her hometown with her young son, Motoki, and must learn to become at peace with her past and present. Noriko fondly reminisces about the bittersweet memories of her teenaged years, her decisions, and how she will move forward in the future.

Now although I find Otona Joshi to be WAY better than Ocean Waves, I do think they make a good recommendation for each other. They both share a sense of melancholy and bittersweet storytelling that would appeal to the same audiences.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The eccentric Suzumiya Haruhi wants nothing more than to meet aliens, time travelers and espers… but she’ll have to settle for the everyday Kyon instead! Along with the mysterious Itsuki and the vacant Mikuru, the duo forms the SOS Brigade – a club whose mission is to discover the mysteries of the world. Armed with a razor sharp wit and a skill for manipulation, Haruhi will stop at nothing to have fun at all costs, even at the expense of Mikuru’s dignity!

LLORAtheLLAMA

Both feature a bossy female lead that drags the male lead around. Although there are no supernatural elements like in Haruhi, there is enough drama to keep you interested in Ocean Waves. Also, the leads go through a gradual change within the series which brings them closer together than they originally started off as.

Toradora!

Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu has an eventful life: his classmates think he's a delinquent due to his 'killer' eyes; his crush Minori seems ever out of reach; and he’s just had an unfortunate encounter with 'palm-sized Taiga' – a feisty and dainty wench in his class. With different cleaning habits and tempers, the two clash like night and day; that is, except for the fact that Taiga and Ryuuji have crushes on the other's good friend! With school rumors abounding, the duo must now work together to play matchmaker for each other. Who will end up with their true love?

Both are tsundere. and the male lead only realises at the end that the feeling they have for the female is love
