Beyond the Boundary

Beyond the Boundary

In a world where supernatural beings known as youmu are hunted by Spirit World Warriors, Akihito lives an eventful life. He’s a half-breed from a human mother and a youmu father, and is immortal - a fact that saves his life on a regular basis, for his bespectacled classmate Mirai can’t seem to stop stabbing him in the chest. She’s a Spirit World Warrior with the power to control her blood, which she manifests into a sword; and with low self esteem about her abilities to hunt youmu, Mirai constantly uses Akihito as target practice. In hopes of being left alone, Akihito must now help Mirai gain confidence to take down sinister youmu.

They both have similar stories and ways with the phantoms etc. With the worlds more-so for the afterlife etc are really similar but they do have their differences.

RamkoX12X RamkoX12X says...

Both consist of supernatural themes and contain similar action. Beyond the Boundary and Noragami have crossovers between people and animals as well. So if you like one, then you would definitely like the other.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

These are both anime about the characters trying to fend off supernatural monster while building relationships and getting to know each other. Both these anime are less concerned with plot than they are about creating their unique worlds where humans live side by side with spirits and monsters and the only thing to protect then are people or gods with super powers.

While the terms used and setup of each anime might be different with Beyond the Boundary being about humans and Youma and Noragami being about Gods, humans and spirit monsters, both anime use the same style of blending comedy, drama and action. Both anime tend to focus on their characters trying to create a charming cast being revealing the drama they are dealing with.

The difference is Noragami actually succeeds in having a likable cast that build meaningful relationships with each other, while also building up a world where gods are real even if they're invisible to most humans. Beyond the Boundary fails at doing any of these things, the comedy is poorly timed, the drama falls flat and the characters aren't believable and the world building is sloppy and incomplete. Noragami is the superior anime.

However, if you like this kind of common anime setup then try either of these titles.

Grach Grach says...

Both Noragami and Kyoukai no Kanata feature a supernatural/fanasy element; in each, the main characters fight spirits while getting to know one another more. In both, the plots advance mostly to better explain the 'human world mixed with the supernatural' idea, along with blending comedy, action, and slight drama.

teribird teribird says...

Both are modern fantasies with an underlying mystery and a well-rounded, interesting cast. The art for both is similar and fantastic as well. Both have cool sword vs demon fight scenes.

Bradalee Bradalee says...

Bother shows follow a group of kids as they attempt to fend off supernataural threats, while building relationships along the way in an often humerous way. The main difference in this regard is thaty Noragami follows a main character who's a god, whereas KnK is more about supernatural schoolkids.

So while they share themes and have similar plots, the way they are executed between shows couldn't be more different. Noragami excells with its charming cast, natural and funny comedy and interesting storyline. KnK on the other hand fails miserably to even time its jokes well, let alone  remembering to make then actually funny. The characters are nothing more than a bunch of annoying tropes designed to look cute, and the plot suffers from both poor writing and poor directing.

So Noragamis is by far and away the superior showhere, but fans of one may feel like the other is worth a look.

JohnWatchAnime JohnWatchAnime says...

beyond the boundary and Noragami are very simular. Both deal with monsters from the afterlife. In both shows some people have to kill those monsters.

anosora anosora says...

They're different, no doubt, but they have similar plot lines. They both focused on a small group, both main charactesr are supernatural beings of some sort. Where as Noragami tells the tale of a normal human girl being dragged into the spiritual world, everyone in Kyoukai no Kanata is already part of the spiritual world. There are demons to hunt, ayakashi in Noragami and youkai in Kyoukai no Kanata. They're both serious and cute, with great animation.

DropofVenus DropofVenus says...

Very simialr set-up only Noragami is more character driven than story driven. Kyoukai no Kantana is explained a little better, but that characters are not as good as Noragami's characters.

CommanderKarasu CommanderKarasu says...

Noragami and Soul Eater are two supernatural shows with similar comedy, stylish animation (Soul Eater's is a bit more unique and cartoon-y),and lots of action along with some drama here and there. The fighting in both shows is also very much the same - a person transforms into a special weapon, one to be used only by their partner/master, as they battle against tainted souls. Fans of one will definitely want to check out the other.

electricutie electricutie says...

Both have main protagonist bound to a weapon that also has a human form. In Soul Eater, they use these weapons to defeat 'demons'. In Noragami, they fight 'phantoms'. There's an immediate understanding that souls can be consumed by darkness. Not only do main characters run into these dark beings, but they encounter other people paired up with a weapon that has human-form. The lead characters in both are especially motivated. Putting in hard work towards their personal goal. The music is also similar in both shows. That might be because they come from the same studio, Bones.

AnimeBrainStorm AnimeBrainStorm says...

Both shows share themes like; supernatural, action, shounen & comedy, they also have the same kind of partnership where one as the weapon, the other as the wielder. Besides both shows are made by Studio Bones.

Either way if you liked one you'll definitely like the other ;)

xCanaxCherry xCanaxCherry says...

Soul Eater and Noragami are pretty similar surprisingly (at least to me). Both anime have spiritual elements, and the characters have similar powers/abilities. Like the human to weapon thing, even though in Noragami they don't eat souls, good or corrupted ones, like in Soul Eater.

Both styles of art aren't bad at all, though they are pretty different. The music and soundtrack for both of them are very nice as well.

I think if you liked Soul Eater or Noragami, you should give the other a go too, unless you've watched both already.

JohnWatchAnime JohnWatchAnime says...

Soul eater and Noragami are very simualr. The way their fighting works is pretty much the same. The always fight in pairs. 1 is the weapenwielder and the other one is the weapen, Although in Noragami people can have multiple weapens.

Blood Lad

Blood Lad

Staz isn’t what you’d call a traditional vampire. He’s fascinated by human culture - especially anime, manga and video games - and unlike his brethren, he has no interest in sucking people dry. As a prominent street boss in the demon world, Staz has never desired to go to to the human world. But when a human girl accidentally wanders into his territory, is eaten by a carnivorous plant and comes back as a ghost, Staz makes a life-changing decision: he’ll help resurrect this lovely lady any way he can, even if it means heading to Earth! But the path won’t be easy, what with having no idea how to complete the task and his own laziness standing in the way.

CommanderKarasu CommanderKarasu says...

An eccentric supernatural boy vows to help a once ordinary human girl return to her normal self after her "death", even though the death was mainly his fault. Both share similar comedy and action, and the main characters are pretty identical in terms of their personalities. Fans of one will surely want to check out the other.

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

These are both action comedy anime featuring a powerful male lead with little common sense trying to help a normal human girl return to normal after an accident. The leads in both these shows are strong fighters, but they are also lazy, selfish and flakey much to the frustration of those they are supposed to be helping. Both these shows have a lot of well animated action as well.

Blood Lad is primarily a comedy with a very small amount of drama, and a lot of references to other anime. Noragami has a lot of comedy, but it also has a healthy dose of drama and takes itself a little more serious than blood lad. However, both shows have an interesting cast of unique and interesting characters that will keep you interested in both series.

If you like your action with some comedy then try either of these titles.

Bradalee Bradalee says...

Supernatural action comedy is the order of the day here, something which both shows manage to pull off pretty well. In each case we have a powerful male lead who thrives on being strange, a little selfish, lazy, and on their complete lack of common sense.

The action in each show is really nicely animated, with Blood Lad going for a more stylized approach than Noragami does, but both are definitely a lot of fun when they choose to let loose. Noragami is perhaps the more serious of the two shows, but never forgets to lighten up the mood with some well placed, and amusing comedy.

JohnWatchAnime JohnWatchAnime says...

both shows are about a supernatural being helping a girl. their goal is to turn the girl back to normal. Blood Lad and Noragami both use a lot of comedy while they can also be serious.

Both of these main character are filled with humor but also get serious at times. Both shows deal with spirits and exorcists and Rin like Yato also weilds a sword. In short, if you like either one, you should consider giving the other one a try because they are both really good!

ZetsubouKaiji ZetsubouKaiji says...

Both these anime have the typical shounen set up of a powerful male lead fighting spirits intent on hurting mankind. Both have some slick well animated action, a cast of quirky likable characters and they both blend action, comedy and drama together to tell their stories.

Where things differ is Blue Exorcist is a much more typical action anime, whereas Noragami is slower paced and more thougtful especially when it comes to developing the characters and their relationships with each other. Noragami isn't as action packed as Blue Exorcist, but it has more depth and feels much more engaging.

Both these anime build up unique worlds that are populated with intriging characters and conflicts. If you liked on then you should try the other.

ItsumoHitori ItsumoHitori says...

Similar feel to the worlds. Ao no Exorcist follows an overall larger group of characters, Rin's classmates, whilst Noragami's main core are only a few. Enemies are treated and feel the same way

both Noragami and Blue exorsit have plots where the main character descovers the supernatural and both have well developed main characters. also both have similar comedic elements and they also have agnst and good character development.

Both are almost the same. High school girl is stuck with a God/Demon and fall in love with him. A guy who is God/Demon with dark past. Side kick who also got a crush on the girl. Both have some good action/comedy, both are somewhat entertaining and short series.

Both anime are about minor gods and their helpers. Also, they are both very funny with a small amount of drama thrown in. The animation is similar as well. They also are both based on manga. My only complaint is that both shows should have been longer.

Both animes present to you, how it feels to be a god or deinty of a shrine a, and the responsibility of it.

Kamisama Hajimemashita has more love elements in my openion.

Go ahead and try out both, im sure you will like them as much as I do.
