Night Head Genesis and Mokke are series that deal with children who possess inherently supernatural abilities. Both also tend to delve into their characters's pasts to note the trials that these powers bring. The difference between the two, however, is that Mokke structures itself as a coming-of-age story, while Night Head Genesis is a supernatural mystery/psychological thriller.
While visiting her grandparents on a remote island, Shiina Tamai, our young protagonist, inadvertently finds a strange star shaped creature, which she names Hoshimaru. This creature, while seemingly harmless and unusual, holds many secrets. Both Night Head Genesis and Shadow Star Narutaru explore what happens when people are suddenly granted great powers and how these powers always seem to bring out the worst side of humanity. While Shadow Star Narutaru is initially a bright story, do not let it fool you as it will quickly turn into a world filled with human suffering, similar to the one explored in Night Head Genesis. Ultimately, great powers always require great responsibility, and Night Head Genesis and Shadow Star Narutaru shows what happens when people forsake these responsbilities.

Though Sukisho has more comedy, and Night Head Genesis is more of a drama, both of these anime tell the story of two people who develop a close bond because of the circumstances of their youth. As the back stories are revealed, we see the hardships that were faced, and how these boys coped with the situation.
