Synopsis:

One thousand years after the Giant Warriors caused an apocalyptic event known as the seven days of fire, humans are living in constant fear of the Toxic Jungle. This ever-spreading forest is filled with poisonous plants and gigantic monstrous insects; even the very air is deadly. Nausicaa is the kind and wise princess of a small, peaceful country known as the Valley of the Wind, which has so far avoided the spread of the forest. One night a large airship containing one of the Giant Warriors crashes into the valley. The following day soldiers from the powerful nation of Tolmekia invade the Valley of the Wind to reclaim and revive the warrior. As the only one who truly believes that there is a way for humans to live alongside the insects, Nausicaa must find a way to stop the war that now threatens her people and protect the Toxic Jungle before the Tolmekians burn it to the ground.

While not as light hearted as Nausicaa, both take place in a bleak furture with gorgeous animation and good story.

Both Nausicaa and Millenium Actress feature strong leads in challenging positions. Despite the fact that Millenium Actress flashes back to the past while Nausicaa takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, both women are faced with difficult choices in their own respect.

Both of these have strong female protagonists and a similar mystical element, and you should definitely enjoy them.

Nausicaa was one of the first projects Hideaki Anno participated in. Although he drew only a few things in Nausicaa it seems that his animation had a pretty big influence on Neon Genesis Evangelion. The giant humanoids in both shows were designed by him and they do have a lot in common. Also both movies are apocalyptic, but Anno's NGE is much heavier and darker than Miyazaki's Nausicaa. If you liked Nausicaa, you should try watching NGE.

P.S. I can't guarantee you're going to like it, but giving it a try shouldn't hurt (but I may be wrong, it is the infamous Neon Genesis Evangelion after all).

Ozma

But when the boy accidentally rescues a mysterious girl from a fleet of military ships, little did he know that she'd be connected to his long lost brother...

Both are set in post-apocalyptic worlds affected by severe ecological changes which have transformed the earth - so there is a strong enviromental theme to both.

They both feature an industrialised civilisation trying to obtain a particular person/thing which may have repurcussions for humanity's (and the earths) future.

The main protagonists for both are initially independent bystanders who are swept up in these events.
