The Cat Returns

One afternoon on her way home from school, Haru saves a cat from getting run over by a truck and promptly gets the shock of her life when it stands on its hind legs to thank her. That night, she is greeted by a parade of felines who inform Haru that her earlier heroics saved the prince of the Cat Kingdom. Haru suddenly finds herself inundated with gifts of mice and catnip as means of thanks, culminating in the announcement that she will be taken to their kingdom to marry the prince. With no desire to marry Prince Lune, Haru turns to The Baron and Muta from the Cat Bureau for help, but unable to stop them, Haru is swept away by a horde of cats. Both of these movies are kid friendly, imaginative, and heartwarming. They are both films from Studio Ghibli. They have excellent animation, great storylines, cats, and quirky music that fits the themes.

Both Totoro and Junkers Come Here are filled with warmth. They can represent what you call "childhood": magic things, animals talking, and familly problems which are solved at the end. All of it can be seen through the magical eyes of a child.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

Yuichi is a teenage boy who was diagnosed with hepatitis; and as staying at the hospital is boring, he often sneaks out at night to hang out with his friends. However, each time he is caught by the slightly sadistic nurse Akiko, he just prolongs his stay at the hospital. After his most recent escape, instead of striking a punch or kick at Yuichi, Akiko says that she'll overlook his sneak outs if he becomes friends with 17-year-old Rika, another hospital resident. Rika doesn't open up to him at first, but she has her reasons: she has a weak heart; and though she may come off as selfish and rude, Yuichi looks beyond the surface to help both of them enjoy what life has to offer.

Both anime tell a beautiful story about overcoming obstacles for the ones that are precious to us. Their poetic narration is very subtle and touching. Hanbun no Tsuki and Totoro are anime at their best, and will give you hope.

Abashi Abashi says...

Niea Under 7 is about a girl who encounters an alien. With this alien is a whole habitat of foreign creatures. Like in Totoro, there are other people just like her (the alien). I could give you more information, but that would be too much of a spoiler.
