Moyashimon and Kamichu! are two of my favorite comedy/slice-of-life series. They're light-hearted, silly, easy to watch, and have much more unique characters and situations than most shows in the genre. Both are about a character that can see and do things that others cannot, and how they deal with that power.

NieA Under 7

NieA Under 7

In the future, aliens coexist freely with mankind on Earth. One such alien is NieA, a lazy yet spirited girl who wastes away her days while living with the studious Mayuko. And life isn't easy... Mayuko is always short on food money, the spa where she works is about to go bankrupt and Mayuko's alien-crazy friend Chiaki is obsessed with NieA.

If you're willing to accept (and appreciate) the general weirdness of either Moyashimon (I can see germs!) or NieA_7 (This city is full of crazy aliens but that's totally normal!), then you'll likely like the other.

Both are definitely-not-mainstream slice of life series about poor college students and their unusual circumstances.

Working!!

Working!!

Self-professed lover of all things small and cute, Souta Takanashi finds himself dragooned into working at the Wagnaria family restaurant by the diminutive and vivacious Poplar Taneshima. Though the pay is reasonable and the clientele polite, the high school student is often at his wits' end when dealing with the quirky staff. If the indifferent and street-tough manager, katana-carrying floor chief, and terminally weak Poplar weren't enough, Souta frequently fears for his life, as every encounter with the violently androphobic Inami ends in injury. How long can he survive before the combined stress and harm do him in?

Each series is both highly entertaining and funny at the same time with each series using somewhat similar humor to make the viewer laugh and just overall enjoy the series.  Both series also carry this very easy going type of flow to them with the cast in either series pretty much never getting serious.  Each series also has somewhat similar cast of characters that bring their own individuality to each series.  If you liked one of them then you'll probably like the other as well.

Level E

Level E

Yukitaka has just left Tokyo, eager to transfer to Kisaragi High where he's been recruited to play baseball. However, upon entering his new apartment, the boy is met by a man with long blonde hair who claims to be… an alien?! After initially scoffing at the notion, Yukitaka discovers that the alien – Ouji – is for real, has amnesia and, what's worse, now wants to live with him in his apartment. The fact that scientists and mysterious guys in black suits are after Ouji becomes the least of Yukitaka's problems as his new guest turns out to be more than a handful to handle!

Level E is a decidedly eclectic show whose comedy leans heavily on the whimsy of its self-centred protagonist, the Prince of Dogura. In making this recommendation, I was trying to remember the last time I had this enjoyable 'taken along for a zany ride' feeling, where amusement requires casting suspension of disbelief to the winds. And Moyashimon immediately popped to mind. Their narratives and setting have nothing in common, and Moyashimon's humour is a little more elusive, but they give a very similar eccentric experience.

Natsume's Book of Friends

Natsume's Book of Friends

Natsume is lonely; he has an ability that separates him from others: he can see and interact with spirits. Soon, however, Natsume discovers that he’s not alone: his grandmother Reiko also had the gift. But things get hectic and possibly dangerous for Natsume when he finds out that he also inherited the 'Book of Friends', a book that contains the names of all the spirits Reiko defeated and subjugated. He finds himself hounded by his grandmother's underlings and, with the help of a 'cat' charm spirit, decides to free them from the Book's shackles, as well as protect the book from those who seek to misuse its power...

In both animes, the main character is able to see things normal people can't.

Moyashimon focuses more on comedy and Natsume is in my opinion far superior in both story and art, but both are worth a watch.

Ketsuekigata-kun!

Ketsuekigata-kun!

Are people really defined by their blood types? A, B, AB and O-Type are here to set things straight. Whether they're trying to cross a bridge, sharing their hearts or meeting aliens, the four blood types continue to prove – or disprove – popular theories about themselves. Does B-Type like rules to be broken, is A-Type cautious and naïve, and is O-Type a peacemaker?

If you like the microbes' antics in Moyashimon, you'd probably appreciate the personified blood types in Ketsuekigata-kun. The series fits better with Moyashimon's shorts, but would appeal to fans of the main series as well.
