Kinda of the same plot template. The main character which is the boy(Gundam) or the girl(Angel) both enter a current trend of buying these lil models or figures and fighting other people with them. It even follows the same start with the guy or girl both winning their first fight. But then they get challenged by a champ and get defeated by them. Thus motivating them to beat the champ.
Overall its the same concept of being able to build your own mech and using it to prove that its strong or the best. In terms of story Angelic layer is much more enjoyable in the way the approach how the technology came about. Other than that, they are both enjoyable if you like the concept.
Both Mokei Senshi Gunpla Builders Beginning G and Busou Shinki Moon Angel have the same kind of style where the human controls the doll/gundam. Gunpla feels like it's aimed at boys more where Busou Shinki Moon Angel goes for both genders equally but both are a fun quick romp of doll/gundam virtual fighting fun. Check em out.
All young Ikki wants is to have his very own Medabot, but his parents insist that he purchase the machine with his own hard-earned money. Though he can't afford a top-of-the-line model, Ikki finds, by chance, a special medal in the river; with it, any Medabot will come to life and accept the commands of its owner. After a fellow classmate is bullied at school, Ikki rushes to buy an inferior model of Medabot and places his medal inside of it. While his new companion - which he dubs Metabee - is functional, there's one important problem: Metabee has a serious attitude problem and refuses to acknowledge Ikki's commands. Together, Ikki and Metabee will duel opponents such as the Rubberobo gang and local bullies while they prepare for an upcoming Robattle Tournament - but their worst opponents are each other! Will Ikki and Metabee stop arguing long enough to climb to the top?
