Danganronpa: The Animation

Danganronpa: The Animation

Hope’s Peak Private Academy is a super-exclusive institute that gathers the best and the brightest, provides them with a world-class education, and propels them into any career they wish. At least, that’s what the average student Naegi used to think. Having been accepted into a class of 15 students through a lottery system, the boy quickly comes to learn that Hope’s Peak is no ordinary school. In reality, he and the group find themselves trapped inside and learn that the only way to "graduate" is to murder a fellow student and fool everyone in a trial that determines life or death! Led by the whimsically-cruel, teddy-bear-like Monobear, Naegi and the others must do whatever it takes to escape this bizarre, deadly game.

Reasons you might like Danganronpa: The Animation...

ofall ofall says...

Both are "survival games" that feature an unremarkable male lead and a colorful cast of secondary characters. They are also kind of comedic, dispite being about death.

Naga Naga says...

Both anime are about a completely surreal death game. And they both feature a similar protagonist; a plain, normal guy whose only power is his survival instinct and some other things he finds handy. If you liked one, you could check out the other one. (i don't like any of the 2. just saying)

Rastamepas Rastamepas says...

Both  Mirai Nikki and Danganronpa feature high stake survival game a kill or be killed aspect. They also have an average young boy as the main protagnist amongst a big cast of "special" people.

Chances are if you like the average protaganist thrown into a death you'll find both of the shows interesting.

TheTempest TheTempest says...

That's just the same thing, a game about surviving, but Danganronpa is a lot less dark than Mirai Nikki, if you like one you should have a good time with the other, but put this in mind, Mirai Nikki's world has a lot more gore and explicit assassinations and Danganronpa's world are bound with a 'find the murder' story.

duarte duarte says...

In both animes characters deal with a survival game where they have to kill to win.

The difference is in Mirai Nikki the characters have a supernatural element while in Danganronpa the characters have to rely on their analytical skills to survive.

theSentinel theSentinel says...

there is an obvious connetion between the two.  I will keep it simple, if you liked one then I highly reccommend the other as well.  They are not mirror images or copies, they are very unique, but the genres are similar.

akumasaint akumasaint says...

This is almost like a flip of a coin in terms of being simular as the protags of both shows are different in the ways of dealing with what has happen to them.

Considering it's all a game for both shows, I would recommend these two together.

Flutteryay Flutteryay says...

Both anime are about a survival game where people kill each other. Both even share similiar characters.

misteruwalrus misteruwalrus says...

If you're into psychological "survival games" then you'll definitely like Dangan Ronpa. I also highly suggest its corresponding PSP game by the same name.

MaraRuizu MaraRuizu says...

Both are survival games with a kill or be killed situation.

Furthermore, both have large casts of interesting characters, all while having the main character be comparatively average.

Bestanimeserie Bestanimeserie says...

Both shows are survival games where the main difference is that in mirai nikki one has to kill another in order to survive, and in danganronpa it's more one guy killing another and then the rest of tha cast trying to solve who did it. They do have the same type of genres mystery, action, psychological. So if you liked one you'll probably like the other one as well.

Yuune Yuune says...

If you liked Mirai Nikki or Future Diaries you'd almost for sure like Dangan Ronpa. I am still in the middle of watching Dangan Ronpa but they're both similar because they are both about people trying to survive and not get killed by the other people. And basically like Mirai Nikki whoever wins get's a special prize (Or on Dangan Ronpa, graduation).

AL57 AL57 says...

Both have a similar plot and sadly enough a similar Main character (a little p*ssy). Either way you will most likely enjoy both if you enjoy one even though Mirai Nikki is way better.

kuihpau kuihpau says...

-both show the cruel side of humanity that is when given the right situation people will kill to survive

-both have quite a good story behinde them and i like the fact that both are based on a survival game situation

Reasons you might like Elfen Lied...

animeandwwefanDXXD animeandwwefanDXXD says...

Both animes have a similar feel, and significant amount of blood and gore, although Elfen lied has way more (so far compared to mirai nikki) and is a lot more disturbing in nature/themes, but also both animes somehow manage to have this along with cuteness from the same main charachter that kills people - Yuno/Lucy and then they both develop a relationship with the main male charachter - yukki/Kota

so overall if you like gore/blood animes then you would like either, and even if you don't, you still might like them for the romance/cuteness!

i was reccomenned both these animes from my friends, and despite not liking gore, i still liked elfen lied for the romance/cuteness, and mirai nikki as well, so far has a really interesting concept.

Ebhen Ebhen says...

Yep! They are both about scary but cute girls that have no hesitation to kill people they think are in their way or are threatening to themselves or the person they love. :) There is a lot of violence and blood but you get used to it when the story grabs you.Elfen Lied surpass Mirai Nikki though in that area but the other have more psychologic approach. But to be honest, the show have a good storyline so you don't mind the gore and violence after a while. The connection between the two lead characters are the glue to hold the show together.

Mirai Nikki have an anoying and stupid main character that can drive anyone crazy but Yuno makes up for it somehow with here Yandere-style that is way of the scale! :)

(Mirai Nikki isn't finished when I write this so I can't say anything about the ending yet)

Salvio Salvio says...

Like the twisted, morbid story? Like the voilence and the killing? Blood doesn't bother you? Crazy girls with pink hair that kill without batting an eyelash? Then this is the anime for you!

popmik popmik says...

as mentioned by others, there's a lot of blood and gore in both animes and in both you've got twisted main female characters

nobless1368 nobless1368 says...

If you like rivers of blood and serial killers than you will like this anime too! Total genocide and mysterious challenges don't let you go until the end.

Din0queen Din0queen says...

Mirai Nikki and Elfen Lied have a lot of things in common, Elfen Lied has more gore but Mirai Nikki has more psychological warfare, they're both great to watch and if you like one, you'll definitely like the other one, the headcharacters are also pretty similar, Lucy/Nyu and Yuno both have a cute side as well as a murderous side, and then we have Yukkii and Kouta, both boys who, over time, learn more and more about what's happening

LagannHorizon LagannHorizon says...

Gore galore, and a love story between two people who have a twisted past with one another. Both are superb anime and I could not recommend them any higher. Stop everything in your life and watch these!

Noiz19 Noiz19 says...

Well they both have a relationship based story, and they bth have horror and thriller. they are both enticing and intereting, i recommed both of them and if youve watched one, watch thet other.

xanixade xanixade says...

Has same plot bending, same horrifical kind of characters which live a dramatic love. If u loved Elfen Lied. Then this is what you should also love.

usagishiroi usagishiroi says...

Both have a deep story and heavy on the darkside. Mirai Nikki deals with a boy who is stuck in a avoidable situation, while Elfen Lied is about a girl who was was treated like a test subject and is "broken" mentaly. they both have to fight to live and both have to come to terms with whats around them. I would reccomend both of these anime more mature people due to the graphic nature of both.

TreeOfWolf TreeOfWolf says...

Psychos women with pink hairs. I love them. Very bloody, original, violent...

That's really all you need to know, no need to make me write more.

Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate

However, their claymore is a hydrator and their hair dryer flips breakers, and the only invention that’s even remotely interesting is their Phone Microwave, which transforms bananas into oozing green gel. But when an experiment goes awry the gang discovers that the Phone Microwave can also send text messages to the past. And what's more, the words they send can affect the flow of time and have unforeseen, far-reaching consequences...

TheFuture DiaryandSteins;Gateare both anime that will leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next.

So if you like one, you'll surely like the other.

KenichiSora KenichiSora says...

These two animes both had an aspect of going being able to mess with thime via cell phone, and both series have the main charactor use it for personal gain until they realise the consequences for thier actions, both shows are very interesting and if ou like one, you probably will like the other, Mirai Nikki just has epic Yandere, take it or leave it

linanimex linanimex says...

In both anime there are characters who know the future and tries to experiment with changing it. They are also experiencing the outcomes of their action in changing the future. Also towards the end of both anime the story turns more and more tense and involving.

veqtor veqtor says...

Both have very similar themes and atmosphere, and are very good. I would recommend Steins;Gate over Mirai Nikki though

I believe that these two animes are very similar in that both main characters are shown to be very weak in the beginning. Eventually they become turn into more of a better charter that most people like gradually.

They also have the girl with pink hair by their sides. :)

hannes33 hannes33 says...

both animes are similar, because in a way both main charakters need to struggle to stay alive. During their time, when they constantly need to fight they start developing and eventually become stronger charakters.

seine seine says...

Both are thrillers that have a somewhat wimpy guy and a pink-haired girl of questionable sanity. In Guilty Crown I am not referring to Inori. You'll see.

ferengi4 ferengi4 says...

These animes are both my FAVORITE animes, they are the the top 2 I recommened to people daily. Both have good stories, sound track, characters, and overall great animes. If you havent watched either of them you are reallly missing out

CommanderKarasu CommanderKarasu says...

Crime Edge and Mirai Nikki both revolve around a deadly survival game with unusual weapons. In Crime Edge, participants use possessed items known as "Killing Goods". In Mirai Nikki, they use cell phones that can predict the future in ways unique to the user. Crime Edge comes off as a bit silly at times compared to Mirai Nikki, but if you enjoy unorthodox games, survival, and a little bit of gore, and you liked one, you should give the other a try.

Lightness20 Lightness20 says...

Competition between a group of people sharing something in common, a power that makes them different from your average Joe. All of this in order to satisfy their own selfish desires.

Bestanimeserie Bestanimeserie says...

Both shows are about a killing game, with items that have special powers. In mirai nikki it's the diary's and in Crime Edge it's the killing goods. Both have tons of action are a bit gory but beware Crime Edge is full of fethishes other than that if you liked on you'll like the other as well.

TheBear9696 TheBear9696 says...

It just has that sense that this select few people must kill each other to make there dream come true. Even though one uses sell phones and other media devices and the other uses weapons they both have varying ability of what they can do. It also shows just how crazy someone can be if it to protect the one that they love

~GarraN

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

A life or death game where participants try to kill each other and a male and female trying to protect each other. The female does more protecting in Mirai though and in the Severing Cime Edge everyone is after one girl mainly while in Mirai it's everyone against everyone. Both have a supernatural element to them.
