One clear festive evening, Lucia, a mermaid princess, rescues a young boy from drowning. With him, she leaves the source of her beautiful singing voice: a pink pearl necklace. Several years later, Lucia has grown into a young woman, and embarks on a quest to the human world to reclaim her pearl and find her lost love.
Life can be tough when you're a teenager. Enter Tsukino Usagi, an average, if somewhat clumsy, junior high student whose voracious appetite for sweets and capacity for tears are offset by her enthusiasm for life. Her normal existence is suddenly turned upside down when a talking cat named Luna comes into her life. Suddenly, Usagi finds herself with the ability to transform into the superhero known as Sailor Moon. Fighting the occasional monster may be the least of her worries, though...
Both Sailor Moon and Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch have overly sensitive and loud lead characters but the underlying love story in both is enough to draw you in.
Both series feature girls fighting for peace and at the same time, pursuing thier own careers - as students, and eventually, as career women.
When I watched Mermaid Melody, I couldn't help but notice how it reminded me of Sailor Moon but a little more modern and aimed at a younger audience. The romance, comedy, magic, mystery, transformations and search for allies is the same for both. If you enjoyed one, you'll definately enjoy the other.
If you've seen Sailor Moon I recommend it's little sister - Mermaid Melody. And if you've seen Mermaid Melody, I recommend it's older sister - Sailor Moon.
Once again, another magical girl anime. These animes both have the magic, romance, and adventure that can keep anyone watching 'til the very end!
:)
Twelve year old Mitsuki's desire is to become a singer. She has the talent and a beautiful voice, but she also has a throat tumor which threatens to rob her of her gift of song. As if things weren't bad enough, two shinigami inform Mitsuki that she only has one year left to live. However, all is not lost, for they make a deal that if she goes with them, they will help realize her dream by changing her into a healthy 16-year-old, who is able to sing and apply for auditions.
Both are about singers and magical girls. They both have romance and a bit of drama. There are also cute mascot characters ie: PPP's Hippo and the shinigamis of FMOS.They're both cute animes and im sure if you like one, you'll like the other!
Hinamori Amu is a stylish punk rock girl who is liked and feared by her peers, but there's just one problem: she's actually a shy and quiet girl who can't seem to drop her self-fabricated facade! But when Amu finds three eggs in her bed, she had no idea her life would change forever. Out of the eggs pop Ran, Miki and Su, Amu's Guardian Charas; these being represent parts of Amu that she wishes she could be, even allowing Amu to transform into those parts at will! Now, with pressure from the other Guardians (including her crush, Hotori) to join their midst, dark sides of the psyche known as X Eggs to seal, and nefarious forces after a wish-granting egg known as the embryo, Amu's life has officially become more complicated!
Though Mermaid Melody is aimed at a much younger audience and has many, many more magical girl transformation sequences, I think it's a good fit with Shugo Chara. Both have a fairly loose and uninteresting plot with plenty of bright colors and characters -- and of course, plentiful amounts of transformations! If you liked the cuteness in one, try out the other.
If you enjoyed Mermaid Melody the you'll definately love Shugo Chara. Shugo Chara is aimed at a slightly older audience, but it has all the loveable things that Melody has and better! You have romance, comedy and a whole lot of transformations and kicking bad guy (or in shugo chara, bad egg) butt! You'll instantly fall in love with the characters and Shugo Chara is sure to keep you interested if Mermaid Melody did!

Magical girls coming together to fight a evil that threatens their love and way of life. MMPPP actually has mermaids in it where Umi Monogatari doesn't but both are tales of good against bad. MMPPP is more playful and light hearted where Umi Monogatari takes things a little more seriously. Check one out if you liked the other as they have a similar feel to each other.
Both of these are cute magical girl shows. The main characters used to live in the ocean, but live on land to fight evil. They both not only have cute transformations, but romance with human boys.
