On a solitary island in the middle of a vast unknown ocean, Dr. Hell, a deranged genius, plans the final stage of his plan for world domination: the activation of his Mecha Beast Army. The only man aware of Dr. Hell's plan is Dr. Kabuto, a pioneer in new energy sources. In a desperate attempt to stop Dr. Hell before his death, Kabuto uses his research and resources to construct a weapon powerful enough to match that of the Mecha Beast Army, which he entrusts to his grandson, Kouji Kabuto. That weapon is the Super Robot Mazinger Z!
Earth is under attack! The evil cyborgs known as Meganoids are out to convert mankind into machines, using spaceships, anti-gravity devices and other nefarious means to achieve their goal. But while the Meganoids have plenty of firepower, they’re no match for the young Haran Banjo and his transforming robot Daitarn 3! With speed and panache, Haran takes down fiend after fiend with ease. Alongside the lovely Beauty and other fighters of justice, Haran and Daitarn 3 will save humanity and take down the evil invaders!
Do you love the combination of giant robots, super science, a new monster to defeat each week, and our hero saving the world? Look no futher than Mazinger Z and Daitarn 3. Both follow the familiar formula of the 1970s mecha scene. If you enjoyed one, I am sure you will enjoy the other.
Evil aliens known as the Boazanians have invaded Earth, easily defeating all of its conventional military defenses. However, all is not lost: Japan has been secretly developing a mighty weapon – the powerful robot known as Voltes V! This massive mecha is made up of five combat vehicles, three of which are piloted by the sons of Voltes V's inventor; and when the evil Boazanians attack, the five vehicles combine to crush the invaders’ newest evil plot while using their mighty laser sword to slice the enemy robots in two!
Old school mecha anime simply are the best if you were born in the right age... Even to a younger audience, the super robots could seem to be quite appealing, years before the real robot genre started by the Gundam franchise (even if Tosho Daimos could be considered a less known precursor).
After centuries of peace, the Demon Empire emerges and attacks Earth. All seems lost until a boy named Akira is summoned by a strange voice and awakens the god-like robot known as Raideen. Meanwhile, the Demon Empire kidnaps Akira's father and other scientists, trying to find a mysterious substance known as Mutron; and it’s up to Akira to save him! Akira and Raideen must now defend Earth from the Demon Empire and its fossil beasts, while trying to find and rescue his father. Fortunately they do not have to struggle alone; Akira’s friends and great scientists will aid in his quest to put a stop to the Demon Empire, once and for all!
It would be shocking not to see the similarities between the two series. From the first few episodes, they seem like the same series, but with different robots. The dark haired, red wearing, mecha piloting main character. The daughter of a scientist/love interest/damsel in distress. The guy who is jealous of the main character and tries to put together his own vehicle to prove his worth. The corny music and attack names. The reference to power of God or Demon. A new monster to defeat each week. The list goes on and on.
Honestly, I was surprised when I learned Raideen was NOT a Go Nagai creation, considering the similarites.
