Synopsis:

When Akito Tenkawa went looking for answers about his parents' deaths, he had no idea that he'd be indoctrinated into the spaceship Nadesico not only as a cook, but also as a mecha pilot – a job he wants nothing to do with! Alongside his childhood friend Yurika, stoic Ruri, otaku Gai and other misfit crewmates, Akito and the Nadesico crew find themselves in the middle of a brutal war against both the dreaded Jovian Lizards, and the military itself, who wants the civilian ship under their control...

Starship Operators

Starship Operators

When the oppressive Kingdom suddenly conquers the planet Kibi, a group of space cadets are stranded aboard the spaceship Amaterasu. With no money or power, the crew is funded by the Space Channel TV station… for a price. For though they are given the money to buy the Amaterasu and battle the Kingdom, Shinon and the rest of the cadets must also become reality TV stars, allowing the network to dictate how they look, how they fight, and how they react when faced with the horrors of death. For the cadets aboard the Amaterasu, the battle has just begun...

Both Nadesico and Starship operators are space operas, with the plot being set around group of young people piloting a military starship. S.O. has their "reality show" on the Starship channel, Nadeisco has Dr. Kinez' "Getting to know Nadesico". Nadesico tends to be more funny sometimes, while Starship Operators is usually dead serious. So the mood in these shows is pretty different - maybe S.O. is closer to the Nadesico movie "Prince of Darkness" wrt. the mood of the series.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross

A strange spaceship crashes onto the island of South Ataria, throwing the world into disarray over its fate. Thus begin the Unification Wars, a worldwide war that eventually unites the planet under the governance of the United Nations. Now, a decade later, the reconstruction of the crashed alien craft – dubbed "Macross" – is complete. However, on the day of its christening, the Macross unexpectedly fires and destroys several approaching Zentradi spaceships. The last hope of Earth, the Macross, begins to wage a lonely war; but what hopes can one ship have when facing against an entire alien race?

Both shows deal with young adults having to face invaders in giant mecha. Robotech is the more serious of the two, while Nadesico basically pokes fun at shows like Robotech.

Tenchi Muyo! GXP

Tenchi Muyo! GXP

Seina Yamada is incredibly unlucky; everything he touches is horribly destroyed. One day while visiting his sempai Tenchi's house, he is mistaken for the man by a member of the Galaxy Police Force and becomes inducted into the force. However, his terrible luck gives him an advantage in his new role: Seina encounters pirates at every turn, allowing his GXP comrades to capture many of the galaxy's worst criminals! Armed with a ship cloned from Ryo-Oh-Ki, Seina sets forth with his mostly female companions to defeat the sinister Barta pirates. Only one question remains: which is more important - capturing criminals or capturing hearts?

Both stories contain a male protagonist that goes from an unimportant nobody to playing a pivotal roll in a much larger conflict. (In one story the boy is a cook and in the other the boy is the unluckiest boy alive). Both stories involve side drama (and comedy) between the main character and several female character. The both also involve space/spaceships etc...
