Synopsis:

When Akito Tenkawa went looking for answers about his parents' deaths, he had no idea that he'd be indoctrinated into the spaceship Nadesico not only as a cook, but also as a mecha pilot – a job he wants nothing to do with! Alongside his childhood friend Yurika, stoic Ruri, otaku Gai and other misfit crewmates, Akito and the Nadesico crew find themselves in the middle of a brutal war against both the dreaded Jovian Lizards, and the military itself, who wants the civilian ship under their control...

Two anime series feature a fresh crew on an experimental ship fighting a hopeless war, and caught between two sides with no scruples. Well, that can be a lot of anime, but specifically, Nadesico and Gundam Seed are pretty similar. Though the mood in both varies from the comedic in the former to the melodramatic in the later, both series are excellent entries into the dramatic giant robot category that has become popular as of late. You can count on both series to be compeling, and speak a great deal about human nature. At least I thought so...

Even though Nadesico's a huge 26 episode series and Plastic Little is only a single OVA, both share elements of sci-fi, action, and comedy. Nadesico has much more to offer, of course, but there's a certain familiarity between the two titles. Although Nadesico is pretty child-friendly (if they can keep up with the plot), Plastic Little is definitely geared toward an older audience because of the nudity in it - whether that's good or bad is up to you.

Both shows deal with young adults having to face invaders in giant mecha. Robotech is the more serious of the two, while Nadesico basically pokes fun at shows like Robotech.

There's nothing better than a rather "random" and ragtag group of people working together for a common cause.  Nadesico and Sakura Wars share that aspect of things.  Both shows offer lighthearted comedy, especially in Sakura Wars when Ri decides to experiment on Iris and her teddy bear consequently gets angry.  If you loved the action, drama, and comedy that the team in Nadesico offered, then watch Sakura Wars!  Albeit one has to deal with outer space in the future, and one in an alternate historical Japan...
