LeBBlood LeBBlood says...

Both of these are extremely terrible anime that revolve around special squads trying to eliminate an unknown enemy.  If for some ungodly reason you like one of them, check out the other.

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both are sci-fi anime which features a squad of young girls trying to save Tokyo from an alien attack. Also both of them shares a similar feel and are quite bad. So if you liked one you should try the other.

Thrawn Thrawn says...

These two OVAs are crap. Both are about a token guy and a bunch of teenagers fighting aliens to the tune of crappy animation and random ass screen cuts, sometimes with flashbacks. Not worth your time but they're two peas in a pod.

RoyalOss RoyalOss says...

As the previous users said both involve alien attacks and both are terrible anime. Really crappy CGI effect, crappy editting, crappy story and both have an abrupt weird ending.

Normally I would say if you enjoy the one you can watch the other. But in this case I will say, if you dislike the one you should avoid the other.

TheIceQueen TheIceQueen says...

they are both based on a video game, they both have something to do with outerspace, and of course, they both suck ass.

FriendlyDemon FriendlyDemon says...

Both anime star a group of girls lead by a guy, trying to eliminate an alien threat. Crappy animation and editing, plus a sudden ending, links both anime.

megafat megafat says...

Both are heaping piles of trash for the same reasons. If you liked one for some reason (or hate yourself enough to endure awful anime like this), the other one is a perfect companion piece to this. Both together a less than an hour.

HawkAussie HawkAussie says...

If you watch two crap OVAs, these two are properly the best to choose as they both make no sense from what they are trying to achieve. Which is nothing.

Oceanwithwaves Oceanwithwaves says...

They are both rated the worst anime of all time. And both are mecha's(which says a lot about the genre) with similar elements.

FalconX578 FalconX578 says...

Oh boy. Oh boy. If you liked—which I highly doubt anyone did—either Tenkuu Danzai Skelter Heaven or Hametsu no Mars, then I'd like to know how. Both of these are rated as some of the worst anime ever, not just on Anime Planet, but on MyAnimeList and Kitsu too. With horrible character development and hideous CGI, these aren't even worth watching for laughs. Apparently these were both made to promote two video games, even though they probably achieved the opposite effect. There's not even a worthwhile story to follow, so just don't bother with either of these.

The fate of Japan and the entire world now lie with these three children, though they might not have the power to save the most important thing of all: each other.

Plenty of things come to mind when comparing Evangelion and Mars of Destruction. The whiny protagonist and strange almost mechanical-looking monsters are two similarities, but even moreso, there's an ever-present moodyness and angst in both of these series. If you liked Mars, check out the classic Evangelion.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

If you like young whiny, angsty protagonists piloting powerful suits to defeat strange creatures terrorising Tokyo, then you're likely to enjoy Evangelion and Mars of Destruction. While Evangelion is better, both have a similar sort of mood to them so if you enjoyed one, then it may be worth checking out the other.

Qplayer Qplayer says...

Get in the robot I mean, super suit. NGE was so influential that it inspired a lot of copycat wannabes, and Mars of Destruction is certainly one of them. If you want to see a decent anime with many of the same themes (aliens/emo protagonist), you may as well watch Evangelion.

The first thing I thought of when watching Mars of Destruction was Silent Mobius. You'll recognize a very similar feel and plot base. Various women are fighting against strange invaders, with plenty of violence and action. As Mars of Destruction was quite short, you might also appreciate the longer, more character driven Silent Mobius.

Karas

The ultimate battle between good and evil awaits; can Yurine and her newly initiated Karas prevail against Lord Eko and protect their city against his monstrous horde?

Karas is a badass fighter in a suit of armor, and so is Takeru, in Mars of Destruction. But I didn't make the recommendation solely on something like that; if you liked the monster fighting and actions in Mars, you'd surely like the far superior Karas as well. Karas definitely has more of a Batman Begins type feel while Mars is definitely video-game material, but still, try it on for size.

While Blue Gender isn't necessarily a match to Mars as far as plot or theme, this is one of those "I just think you'd like it"votes. Blue Gender has the same horror, action and suspense elements, and has the same sort of feel. Also is longer and more fulfilling, in my humble opinion. Try it out.

Both anime take place in a futuristic setting, and involve characters who have to fight aliens and save the human race from extinction. Mars of Destruction has a captivating sense of self preservation, conflict among the characters, and a very interesting take on space aliens. Combustible Campus Guardress is a more laid back anime which deals mainly with the two main characters.
