Synopsis:

Goro Honda is a little boy who is obsessed with baseball. As a child, he watches his father, a professional baseball player, be removed from the Blue Oceans’ main team due to a shoulder injury that left him unable to pitch again. However, since his son looks up to him more than anyone else in the world of baseball, Goro's father decides that he can't quit just yet (as pitching is not the only way to be able to play baseball!). With his father's shining example, Goro decides to never give up as well, working his way into the Japanese Little League as a force to be reckoned with!

Major has much of the same enthusiasm and love of the game as Inazuma Eleven. Both have a protagonist that loves the sport. Be it baseball in Major or Soccer in Inazuma eleven. Goro in major loves baseball and has the same spirit as Endou, the spirit that is contagious to the rest of the team and brings out true potential.

Slam Dunk

Slam Dunk

Sakuragi has hit an all-time low. During his last year of junior high school, fifty different girls rejected him, the last one choosing a basketball player instead. Thus it’s no surprise that in high school, Sakuragi beats up anyone who dares utter the name of the sport. However, it’s not long until he meets Haruko, a beautiful basketball enthusiast, and is determined to make her fall in love with him – even signing up for the school team to accomplish his goal. However, winning Haruko’s heart won’t be easy, as her brother is the strict and protective captain of the basketball team and Haruko’s eyes are focused on Sakuragi’s rival, the talented Rukawa. Can Sakuragi give up his delinquent ways to help get the team to Nationals, or will his temper get him kicked out before he can learn to dribble the ball?

There's a very similar story structure and a somewhat subtle way of adding in the comedy with the story, also the introduction to the sport is handled in the same kind of way so anyone who isn't invested or knows the basic rules should be able to understand whats happening within the episode.

Suzuka

Suzuka

Yamato Akitsuki has recently moved to Tokyo, and in order to maintain his less than wealthy lifestyle, he currently works at his aunt's bathhouse. While walking by the school one evening he sees a girl by the name of Suzuka practicing the high jump, and is instantly in love. Even better is the realization that Suzuka lives next door! Determined to prove himself worthy of her affections, Yamato decides to join the school's track team and show her what he’s got, but things won’t be so easy; for Suzuka has a love interest of her own, and it isn’t Yamato...

This is going to seem like a strange rec, with Suzuka being a Romance / Sports anime and Major being Shounen / Sports. However, these two shows embody what it's like to fully dedicate yourself for a sport and what kind of mindset is needed to do so, and also clearly shows what happens when going into it with the wrong motivations. If you loved how sports were portrayed in both shows, you'll enjoy the other as well as long as the genre barrier isn't a turn-off for you.

Taishou Yakyuu Musume

Taishou Yakyuu Musume

The year is 1925 and Japan is still a country with socially backwards views, particularly on women's rights. One young girl named Akiko Ogasawara decides to fight for equality in her own way - by forming a girls' baseball team! She soon enlists her good friend Koume Suzukawa, and it's now up to the two of them to put together a team of like-minded and spirited young ladies. Under the able and enthusiastic tutelage of English teacher Miss Garland, the girls will need to bond closely, learn well and practice hard if they are to stand their ground against boys' teams and show a misogynistic society exactly what they're made of... while having some fun in the process.

Any fan of baseball and anime well this is a sure fire hit with either anime. Of course Major has more flare for the love of the game, but anyone who has watched either can appreciate what Taishou brings to the table.
